One of my favourite albums of 2009,
This review is from: Clockwork (MP3 Download)
One of my albums of 2009 is here already! welcome back Alif Tree with his latest sonic offering and what a listen. Not quite soul and not quite jazz but with strong elements of both, classical strings and keys, a hint of pop with a healthy dose of electronica, a smidgen of swamp blues and a slice of the French avant-garde for luck.Alif hasn't really made this album he has crafted it. Everything is in the right place, not too much, not too little, just right. Recorded in Nashville with members of Bruce Springsteen's and Al Greens band amongst others not to mention the swamp blues legend Tony Joe White and then mixed down over a period of 8 months in Paris - this album is a joy. Strings stir the emotions whilst a mixture of electronic beats and live drumming provide the bones for the musicians to hang off whilst husky Tony Joe White and a selection of choice vocalists sing in French and English adding to this musical gumbo. Classical piano drops delicate notes to sooth the nerves whilst occasional electronic twists and turns appear suddenly to keep you on your toes. Emotions are stirred and moods created, a thing of beauty and an album to keep coming back to if only to look at the great picture on the cover!
