it was time to replace the egg cooker i'd been using for about ten years. trends in small appliance are ever-changing and my preference for white kitchen gadgets leaves me with few choices while stainless steel is the coveted look. id never heard of Cloer as a brand for household appliances but the look of this compact egg cooker is just my style. the price was about double the typical cost of any other egg cooker, but the cute 3-egg form won me over and i bought it.

i am very pleased with the machine. it is so small i can leave it out and not lose much of the limited space on my counter. the cord is the round heavy-duty type rather than the flat "lamp cord" that the previous machine had: it seems more durable and easier to wipe clean.

i posted a little video to portray the sound of the alarm you will hear when the eggs are done. i guess that some people must have very particular preferences about just how soft their soft-cooked eggs are, because the piercing alarm that this cooker (and every other brand of egg cooker i've used) could not be ignored. once that egg is done you can't ignore the alarm and will RUN back to the kitchen to shut it off. this isn't meant to be a criticism of the Cloer egg cooker since it seems to be a feature that every brand provides.

if i have a criticism it would be the price. at $53 it is double the price of a typical egg cooker on amazon. on the package the brand mark reads "Cloer Germany" but buried deep in the fine print you will find "MADE IN CHINA". i know that everything is made in China these days but Cloer and amazon seem to be exacting a steep price premium for this brand compared to every other product you'll find in this category on amazon.

I bought this unit based largely on the favorable review, accompanied by a video, posted on Amazon. The trouble is, it doesn't cook eggs. The amount of water governs the cooking time - more for hard-boiled, less for soft-boiled, with markings on the built-in measuring cup for the right amount of water. I first tried one egg, soft-boiled. When the buzzer sounded, I opened the egg to find a room-temperature uncooked egg. Tried the next higher measurement (medium cooked) that resulted in a slightly warm, uncooked egg. Finally tried the hard-boiled setting with just one egg. Same result, an uncooked egg. I re-read the instructions and even watched the video again, made sure the unit was level and water level was correct. Without eggs, I timed the unit from the point when water was added until the buzzer sounded. It took about 2 minutes for "soft" eggs, less than 3 minutes for "hard" eggs. In each case, the buzzer sounded and the unit shut-off about a minute after the water began to simmer. The instructions state that the buzzer sounds when water has evaporated, but most of the water remained in my unit. Only about a half-ounce had been turned into steam. There are no controls to lengthen cooking time and the unit will not turn back on when the water is hot. This product just does not cook eggs. Maybe it is just the unit I received that is defective. As noted in the first review, it is manufactured in China not Germany. But at this premium price every unit should work every time. Don't waste your time (or money) on this product.

I bought this because of the design and features but after using it only 3 times for over $50 we gave up because it just leaks water everywhere. Not recommended.

I've used the Cloer 6099NA Egg Boiler a few times now and am pleasantly surprised by it's efficiency. You are able to choose how to cook the eggs and it works well. As other reviewers have noted, there is a water issue which is caused by the steam. A simple towel beneath while you are boiling will make it easy to wipe away any water that has escaped.

I have two of these egg boilers, one at home and one at the office, and both of them have the same problem: there is water seeping out of the unit, totally drenching the surface underneath. I can't find where it is coming through, apparently between the water reservoir and the egg holder, but it's undetectable. It hasn't been so initially, but over time it has got worse.

Love it so far. Very easy to use and eggs peel soooo easy. I had an older one but the plastic tray that held the eggs did not last long at all, had to buy 2 replacements and thought it was time to try a different brand. Hoping this tray lasts longer. Nice looking and compact for easy storage.

I bought 2 of these.
One for myself and another for my sister in law for last Christmas gift just after my first use.
For me, the buzz sound still makes me panicked every time.
For her, she should mark black line for water quantity.

Other than that, we bought love this.

I have a 3-egg cooker from Krups which I purchased 30 years ago. I decided to get another one and this does the job. There's a small problem, it leaks a bit. However that will NOT stop me because it does the job and that's all I care about. Just put a rag underneath it and problem solved.
