Editorial Reviews

CLOISTERED NUN: RUNA S CONFESSION (aka Shudojo Runa no kokuhaku) - Classic Japanese nunsploitation! In this Roman Pink feature, pretty Runa joins a convent when her stepsister steals her boyfriend. But to her surprise, Runa s life of devout religious observance doesn t exactly turn out the way she expects. Inside her cloistered domain, she discovers more perversity than anything she ever knew outside the convent walls. A few years pass, and Runa is ready for revenge against her stepsister and ex-boyfriend. She gets them involved in a bogus Vatican scheme to promote Catholicism in Japan, a plot development that makes Cloistered Nun: Runa s Confession far more politically pointed than the numerous European sexy nun films it resembles. Cult pinku eiga director Masaru Konuma (Wife to Be Sacrificed) shows that he does not pull punches for the sake of lightweight erotic fluff!

Before we go on, you should be aware that, for a few dollars more, you can purchase 'Debauched Desires - Four Erotic Masterpieces by Masaru Konuma', that has this film and three more not-to-be-missed slices of cinematic depravity from the 70's. (Read my review for details). For a change, or possibly by sheer coincidence, the product details for this gem are spot-on accurate and honest. 'Cloistered Nun: Runa's Confession', is classic Asian nunsploitation along the lines of auteur director Norifumi Suzuki's infamous 'School Of The Holy Beast', and has plot intricacies along with political innuendo not present in films within this genre, and avoids the tedious clichés that are prevalent in most 'naughty nun' flix - I loved it. Nudity is abundant in this nunnery. And perversion is the path to salvation. Praise the Lord.

This is probanly the lamest sequel to the briliant and controversial Story of a Cloistered Nun, which fails to add anything significant to the its predecesor and fails to live up to the high standards established by its predecesor and constitutes nothing more than a waste of time.

If you're searching for a controversial story pertaining to the subject of immorality within the church involving nuns, look towards Story of a Cloistered Nun rather than Runa's Confession.

Stay away at all costs.

The opening scene sets the tone; these debauched nuns and a priest. A grey concrete reality is the subsequent early urban background; Christianity (in Japan) the other. Both are clever contexts for the two central characters; the sisters. One is civilian, the other, the nun. The plot boils down to a proposed property transaction. The nun's sister stole her lover. He is now the agent to the bargain. Calligraphy takes an interesting turn. The eventual consequences for the artist are dire. Double-cross is brewing in two spheres. "By finding God, I found the devil" Runa confesses in one dark moment. Rapes play their part. Dwelling on one incident's repressed pleasure yields surprising results. The sexual twists are as good as the basic plot. The addition of the nuns' habits add to the fundamentally (even religiously) forbidden pleasures. A billiard table is one scene for 'play time'; an empty theatrical set, another for something more collective. This is a film to be in the mood for as I was two nights ago; very good!
