This light saber is a toy, not an adult model, and I can't believe any child wouldn't love it. My son loves all the sound effects it features. It has distinctly different noises and recognizes the movements your child is making. One noise for opening or closing the lightsaber, 1 noise for being slashed through the air, and a 3rd noise when your child strikes something. Yes, this toy IS made to be battled with and it makes a cool "clashing lightsaber" sound when you strike something (hopefully another lightsaber and not Grandma's knees) with enough force. My son is 7 and a Star Wars FREAK!!! (gets that from his dad) and he loves this toy. I'm sorry that the other reviewer has 1 that seems to break, but ours has proven to be durable, exciting and a new favorite toy. PS My son owns about 10 lightsabers of varying quality and functionality. This one is by far the best and well worth the $20 we paid for it at a major discount retailer.

I have never had any kind of problems with this lightsaber. I am going to buy another just because it is so much fun. Don't let bad reviews discourage you they just got a bad toy which happens. So go to a Wal Mart and pick this up.

While my grandson's reaction of jumping and screaming when he opened it on Christmas morning was very gratifying, disappointment set in shortly thereafter when the lights/sounds would not work consistently. We had Eveready alkaline batteries in the toy, but apparently you must have the Duracell-type super powerful batteries in order for this toy to work properly. It would be nice if they would state that on the box. However, when it does work, it definitely lives up to its promise.

My 5 year old son loved this lightsaber. It is spring loaded, lights up, and makes sounds. So far we have owned four. They have lasted from zero days (broken when we took it out of the box) to two weeks. Maybe my son is a bit rough with it, but how can a 5 year old boy resist play fighting with a lightsaber?

So, if you buy this lightsaber expect it to break. Have fun with it while it lasts and tell your kid that it will break so that they are prepared for it when it happens.

My only real suggestion is to make sure to buy the lightsaber from a store with a good return policy.

My five year old son loves this toy. I had to buy another one because when he has playdates both boys want to save the empire together. It's basic but lights up and is durable but not so hard that it hurts if they accidentally (or purposely) hit each other. Lots of fun with lots of imagination.

My son loves this lightsaber. The only problem is that if you swing it AND push the button to extend it at the same time, the force makes the tip hyperextend and get stuck. After much searching, calling Hasbro, and no answers--I found the solution!! Get your hairdryer out and hold it a couple inches from the area where the base of the last section is stuck. Rotate the saber to heat it evenly all around. When the plastic gets really warm try pushing the end in. This worked like a charm for us.

I had this for a few days and it broke down completely. The blade was stuck out and the electronics wouldn't turn on. I wouldn't recomment it unless you can't find anything better, however when it works... it is great as a costume weapon.

So, I got this for a youth event at church, and for a day or so, it worked great. The sound was not quite as authentic as I remember older toy lightsabers having, but they sell them at WalMart, so what do you expect? Speaking of which, the electronics worked for maybe a day before failing completely. Also, when I received the item, the box was damaged, and the saber appeared used (scratched). There are two listings here on Amazon for the same item, so I would try the other listing, not this one. I love the snap-out Force Effect, the old sabers never used to have that, but please, Hasbro, combine the great snap-out with the previously great quality of electronics.

We bought this light saber for my nephew. He has played with it often, and it is holding up very well. It has all the "bells and whistles" to keep a 6 year old happy.

Come on, this lightsaber is huge. My kids can't even wrap their hands around it. It's hard to handle and use. Why can't they make it a bit smaller so kids can grip it.
