Tash Arranda can't believe her eyes. Here, in an abandoned Rebel base on the remote planet Dantooine, she has just seen her parents. Her dead parents. Is she losing her mind?

Then Tash spies the one being in the galaxy she least wants to see--Darth Vader. It seems the Empire has tracked them down at last. If you would read this because you like Star Wars, you will hate it.
If you would read this because you like children's detective novels, you may like it.

Now then, that said, this is a terrible book series, and, yes, I *have* read every book in the series.
This one, however, does have a few strong points, but many weaker ones due to the fact that, in the end, a good dozen things are left unexplained in a rather vague way. The rebels experimenting with cloning (again, clones that make themselves without needing DNA samples and grow up to whatever the age of the person cloned is in less than two days? I don't think so). This book was probably one of the most non-canonical in the series, to be honest.

My biggest issue with this series is that the author clearly puts little effort into making the stories canonical, and often includes random famous characters doing random things they would never do, like Tash telling off Jabba the Hutt, and not getting killed, I mean really. Or Boba Fett getting captured by a bunch of mutants. He has a jetpack for crying out loud. If they could catch him (keep in mind, they weren't even that fast, much less smart), who couldn't? And why would Vader even give a darn about a couple of kids? He has better things to do. Actually throughout most of the series, the question arises: why do any of these very busy characters have time to talk to/argue with a couple of kids? The strongest point of this book was probably the interaction with the locals, to an extent.

Again, this is a children's book. If you like Star Wars novels, the real kind (like the Thrawn series, etc.), you will not probably like this book. However, *yes* it can be a good book for a kid to read, and they may even love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad . . ., March 14, 2000

Zak and Tash "rest" on the planet Dantooine, where their uncle Hoole takes notes on the natives that live there. Tash has a dream about the dark side of the Force and she begins to use the Force for evil. When Hoole, Zak, and Tash run into another adventure, Tash must choose between the light or the dark side. The outcome really surprised me!
