Contemporary Romance- Aug. 31, 2010 4 ½ stars Close Quarters is the 5th in the wildly popular Goddard Project series. This series is known for its: action, suspense and steamy romance. The amazing men and women who risk their lives to protect our country and have the extra time to find love, too! Although many characters from prior books are referred to, this book can easily be read by itself. Lines are blurred as Roman, a member of a special ops team is assigned to plug a leak. By killing the person who is distributing highly sensitive information. But all the evidence seems to point to a relief worker in S. Africa. Someone who Roman knows and is very attracted to. A woman named Tanya. Tanya and Roman met at his sister's wedding. But nothing comes between Roman and his job. He accepts that he may need to `quiet' her. But soon Roman feels that Tanya is not capable of being a spy however, he uses ruthless means to discover the truth. But if Tanya isn't the one leaking important government information, who is? When Tanya immediately recognizes Roman and feels his cold exterior she is puzzled but wants to pursue the attraction she felt with him in the states. But her friendly overtures are rebuffed. Suddenly Roman changes and their desire spirals out of control but when she finds out he has an ulterior motive what will happen to their budding relationship? Can she trust a man who is so ruthless? This mystery and passion between the 2 main characters makes for some HOT reading. There is also a member of the Goddard team who wants to protect Tanya and has his own love interest which was very poignant to read. The tension between the characters makes for steamy reading. The only problem I had was that while Roman is doing his job, his single-minded and cold efficiency made it more difficult to warm up to initially. But he does have a huge amount of sex appeal. In contrast, Tanya is like every woman, she was very human and easy to relate to. The plot was very clever and I enjoyed the discovery of how information was leaked. Can Tanya forgive Roman for his ruthlessness? This was a wonderful story about love and how 2 people fight for what they believe in. If you are already an avid fan of Lucy Monroe the latest installment in the Goddard series will not disappoint! Another fanatstic book by Lucy Monroe that makes me excited for more. Roman Chernichenko is an assassin for a black-ops group and his next job is going to change everything. He and his team are ordered to take out a person involved in espionage who's cover is working as a medical relief worker in Africa. What sounds like a straightforward job get's complicated when Roman realizes that he knows his target. He met Tanya Ruston at the wedding of his sister who's married to Tanya's brother. He doesn't know a lot about Tanya besides that there is some serious attraction between them. When he and his team members realize that she may be innocent the plan has to be changed and making sure that Tanya stays safe is his new priority. Especially because this hard and cynic soldier feels more deeply for Tanya than he ever did before. Meanwhile agent Bennet Vincent (member of the Goddard Project) is also in Africa to discover who's selling stolen US military technology. When meeting Roman and his group he knows instantly that they are no normal soldiers and that something serious is going on. He's also convinced that Tanya is innocent and will do everything to protect her and he will also do everything to convince Dr. Fleur Andikan, Tanya's boss, that she is his soul mate. From beginning to end I pretty much enjoyed everything about this book. I liked the setting in Africa and especially the strong characters. They were likable, believable and I wanted to know more about them. I enjoyed the two love stories between Roman & Tanya and Ben & Fleur a lot. The first one was thrilling, sexy and even a bit kinky, the second one was extremly sweet and heart-breakingly beautiful. I also enjoyed how Africa and the relief work was portrayed. On the one hand you have this beautiful country and people who care for the humans in it and on the other hand you have people only looking for power and money. Especially Fleur's past made a deep impression on me and I was so excited that she found happiness. I enjoyed reading about Roman's team members and can't wait to learn more about them in upcoming books. Furthermore I enjoyed that at the end of the book there was no big showdown in which half of a country was destroyed. The way Lucy Monroe wrote the end of the book felt more real and fiting than any James Bond like final will ever be. cover The cover is ok and nice. final appraisal Lucy Monroe once again wrote a beautiful book full of action, friendship and love. I especially enjoyed that for her there are no boundaries when it comes to love. I adored the two love stories which are sexy, cute and just beautiful. Roman Chernichenko and his team are sent into the wilds of Africa to terminate a national security leak. All the evidence points to an medical relief worker in the Sympa-Med agency. Roman refuses to take care of this threat on such flimsy evidence. He plans on getting to know the worker and then decide a course of action. Roman is shocked to find the aide worker is his sisters Elle's new sister in law Tanya Ruston. Tanya Ruston feels she has found her place in the world by aiding those so desperate in need of medical care. Her boss Dr. Fleur Andikan is a shinning example of someone to emulate for she has overcome great sorrow. Tanya and Dr. Fleur try to serve the needs of those in such massive poverty. But a state department official and his security team both rock their lives. Tanya seems to have caught the eye of the lead of the security team. She really doesn't know Roman all that well but what she sees she really likes. Tanya is drawn to Roman but she knows it can't be permanent. Roman will do whatever it takes to see if Tanya is the informant sell secrets to the enemy. Once he gets to know Tanya as a woman his thinking gets all out of whack. He thought he could seduce her and continue on with the mission but Tanya is so different then any woman he has ever known. Roman's feelings have changed towards Tanya but will she be able to forgive him when she finds out she was being used? Before Tanya can even wrap her mind around what Roman really is, there is someone out there willing to stop at nothing to see her dead. Tanya needs to put her anger at Roman aside and trust in his training to save her life. Close Quarters is compelling. The danger from the corrupt soldiers is vivid and you can feel the menacing stares leaping off the pages. Tanya and Roman dance around their feelings and desire for each other. Their chemistry is tantalizing and powerful. The secondary romance of Dr Fleur and the state department official is deeply moving. This book will touch your heart and stay in your thoughts long after you finish. Lucy Monroe's books are one of a kind and a must read. Enjoy.
