4.0 out of 5 stars sweet reggae music, February 12, 2006
This review is from: Close Your Eyes (Audio CD)
Katchafire are a New Zealand roots reggae band. Well produced, soulful, rootsy, drenched in sweet vocals katchafire really do deliver. While possibly not to every reggae fans taste this remains pretty accessible music that will appeal to all sorts of listners.
Im suprised i have not heard more from them and that Amazon only lists this cd only, the title track appearing on the 'slow burning' album. Not personally my favourite but good never the less. I cant comment on the rest of this cd ownig just two albums 'slow burning' and 'revival'so this space is more to comment on the band in general.
While their songs are pretty much all straight up reggae grooves katchafire have their own style sometimes soulful and sometimes sounding very much like a reggaefied Sublime (punky-stylee). The style is nothing new and sometimes you could almost believe this was recorded 30 years ago. There are some songs with strong messages while others are funky love songs and of course there are a few herbally inspired tunes. It may not be cool to write songs about smoking but who cares katchafire are rocking.

Anyway to sum up Katchafire are well worth checking out and i believe its been said hearing them live is next best thing to time travel back to hear the 60/70s reggae bands. Solid band easy stuff. Nuff said

Reccommended, especially to beach bums and bong heads
