The Cobra Macroflash Automatic Ring Light is a convenient and creative lighting solution for medical, dental, flower, insect, jewelry, coin, and other small subject close-up photography where built-in and conventional flashes are impossible to use. The circular flash tube design encompasses your lens to provide shadow-free, even illumination on your subject. An added benefit of employing electronic flash technology rather than a continuous light source is that it will freeze action, so that a lively butterfly or flower waving in the breeze can be photographed as if they were posing for your camera. A PC cord and Hotshoe-to-PC adapter are supplied, enabling the Macroflash to be used with almost any Digital or 35mm Film SLR Camera with a hotshoe or standard PC socket.

This versatile Ring Light Flash can mount to almost any Digital or 35mm Film SLR lens using the supplied 52mm, 55mm, and 58mm adapter rings — or if necessary, with other optionally available adapter rings. Optimized to prevent vignetting with most lenses having a filter size of 58mm or smaller, these optional Series 7 adapter rings are available separately in sizes from 43mm through 77mm.

The 58mm Macro Filter Kit includes four close-up diopters at +1, +2, +4 and +10 magnification, and a durable carrying case. These filters simply screw onto the front of any 58mm lens, and will maintain resolution and picture clarity while magnifying image size.

i purchased this kit for use with an olympus e-500 digital camera. not having used the batteries or charger, i have no comment on them. the bower close-up lenses, 4+, 2+, 1+ used individually or in tandem seem to provide magnification with no apparent loss in resolution. the cobra macroflash unit is useless. problem one: whether used in auto or manual mode, flash output was never consistent: usually too little or too much; seldom acceptable. two: because the battery compartment is an integral part of the flash, its bulk made usage cumbersome, especially since the battery compartment, according to instructions, is supposed to be parallel to the ground and proper tightening of all components seldom puts it there. the 58mm. adapter tended to bind to my u.v. filter so that filter, adapter, flash came off together. separating the filter from the other pieces was often very difficult. at least with my camera, this flash unit will not suffice for close-up work. and bear in mind as well that were it to function properly in auto mode on your camera, the output is synchronized at f5.6 which will not render adequate depth-of-field for macro work.

Only had a chance to use it a couple of times, but seems to work as advertised...The one problem is the skinny 58mm adapter they sent with it...All of the other ones in the kit have a nice "gripping" area for your hand and are thicker...The one which I really need is the extra 58mm they added to the kit...It is thin, hard to install and remove, sticks and binds when installing and removing...I guess I will need to buy a "quality" 58mm adapter so I can keep using the flash without getting highly frustrated.
