5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating walk through history, July 19, 2007
This review is from: Close-ups of History: Three Decades through the Lens of an AP Photographer (Hardcover)
This book gives us a marvelous peek at history via these wonderful photos, complete with the photographer's own impressions of each incident. It couldn't be more like being there.

Fabulous narration and photographs. Very intelligent and informative and also humorous at times. This book makes you long for news the way it used to be.

Colse Ups of History is the best collection of historical photographs I've ever seen. Henry Burroughs captured some of the most important moments in world through the lens of his camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars History through photography, January 29, 2012
This review is from: Close-ups of History: Three Decades through the Lens of an AP Photographer (Hardcover)
This finely bounded elongated coffee table style book transports the reader to 1944, on the home-front, overseas as World War II ended, then to the Vichy War Crimes trials, the Nuremberg Nazi War Crimes Trials, the Post War conflicts with the Russians over Berlin, then to the tense Norwegian-Russian border above the Arctic Circle.

The clear black & white photographs taken by celebrated AP photographer Henry D. Burroughs are stunning, many of which I had never seen prior to this book. As the book continues documenting key issues of the late 1940s, Mr. Burroughs narration of the key events he photographed add so much more for the reader. America's space program is included, plus the presidencies of FDR, Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, Johnson, Nixon and Ford are all covered in this grand photo album of 20th century history.

I saw Mrs. Burroughs give a quick interview on CSPAN during a book fair back in November. From that I decided to purchase this book of her husband's photographs. I must say I wasn't disappointed. There are some real gems within, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has a passing interest in presidential history and/or photography.
