I bought this item at Target, but really like this bookcase so I thought I'd write a review since people probably browse through Amazon before buying a product (I know I do).

I needed an easy way to help organize my room, and this bookcase fit the bill. I was also interested in it to place under a window as a good way to utilize otherwise wasted space. When I first went to Target, it had already sold out, so I took that as a good indication of the popularity and quality of this product.

Given the price, I was expecting the construction to be on the cheap side, but it's better quality than I was expecting - the composite wood feels sturdy, and the overall construction feels strong. It isn't wobbly at all. I have no qualms about putting a really heavy all-in-one printer on it.

The assembly was also very easy. The instructions were clear and I had no problems putting this together by myself. The only tools you need are a hammer and screwdriver. You could probably put it together in less than an hour. I actually had fun putting it together. But I'm kind of weird and enjoy doing hands-on crafty stuff. :)

The main thing to note is that the back panels aren't made of wood and are actually cardboard that's been painted black. I thought that was kind of tacky, at first, but I don't mind it since it kept the cost down (I bought this for $40). Plus, you wouldn't notice it in a room since it's in shadow anyway.

I think the fabric drawers are a great addition to this bookcase, but are not necessary to make full use of it. Still, if you can get them cheap (I got them for about $5 each, maybe even $3 due to a sale) I'd recommend them, as they really look nice with the case. :)

So if you want an easy, nice looking, cheap case that just works and holds all your junk, I'd heartily recommend this one. It also gives my room a slightly modern edge to it that I love. :)

I actually purchased this item in-store, at Target. If you've ever purchased "do-it-yourself" particle board furniture, expect similar quality; however, I was surprised at the finish, as it seems a little more durable, has a very slight texture and a polished shine to it. Not the matte look that is so typical and scratches easily.

Putting the unit together was a breeze and I highly recommend purchasing some additional pieces to create your own organizing system. The second piece I've bought is Item 78817, Closetmaid Cubicals Stack or Hang 2 Cube Organizer, which I'm going to hang above it or lay it on top to create a tiered look.

The fabric bins that fit into each cube are as of September 2010 $6.99/ea or $12.99/two pack; I just wish they had an orange color...but they do have a lot of colors to choose, so I went aall natural with cream; khaki and taupe.

Summing it up. Five stars for sturdy feel, optional wall attachment clip to keep it from falling on small children, better than most do-it-yourself furniture finishes, ease of installation and the all important price point.

I use this as a tv stand in my living room. My 32 inch flat screen fits great on it. I did have to anchor it into the wall for stability. But so far so good. I've had this about 2 weeks or so. I plan on ordering two more. I put the bins differently than most. I wanted the backing to be empty for my DVD players and such. Works out great!

We bought this to substitute as a toy chest for all our son's toys in our family room. It's perfect! It does not give the 'kiddie' look of a big plastic toy chest (I did not want that look), yet it's perfectly functional for his toys.
We seperate different toys in different fabric bins, and it's easy for him to clean up. All the cars are in one bin, the blocks in another, etc. It makes clean up and finding things a breeze. And, it's a nice looking modern piece of furniture. We laid the piece on it's side, so our toddler can reach all the shelves. That way he can be responsible for his things. We love it.
Someone else mentioned in a review that there are literally about 120 nails to attach the cardboard backing to this piece, and that is true. What a pain in the neck! My husband assembled this piece in about 1/2 hour. The nails were the most annoying part.
I agree with another reviewer who noted that the plastic screw covers aren't really effective. They don't bother me though.
I'm really happy with this purchase and so is my son.
Great toy storage.

We purchased this as an organizer to replace the shelf that holds our DirecTv box in the living room. Our TV is mounted above the shelf, so I can't say anything about this being used as a TV stand. We really just wanted more organization in the living room. This works perfect! I have this laying down on its side (photo posted in customer images) with ClosetMaid 78600 Closet Fabric Drawers.

Organizer was very easy to assemble. It took me about 20 minutes. Instructions were very easy to read. The item did have two small chips in the wood, but it wasn't worth the hassle of returning. I was able to assemble it where those chips are hidden inside the cubbies of the organizer. Additionally, they were very easy to cover with a wood cover-up marker.

I bought the 9 cube product in the espresso finish and liked it so much I got the 6 cube piece too (in espresso and white). Lots of storage with a small footprint, the espresso finish works well with the transitional style of my home, and the white is perfect for a closet in my bedroom.

Assembly: I usually am terrified of assembling these kind of things and leave it for my fiance to do, but wanted to have this done when he got home from work. All said I think it took me an hour to put together all three units. It wasn't difficult at all, all the pieces were there, and after putting together several of these now I have never had issue with the holes being drilled incorrectly.

Minor issues: The backs of the cubes are laminated cardboard with a lot of nails, and if you aren't very careful to get them in straight they will damage the finish (one nail out of 120 I used - no joke, it is a LOT of nails) did go crooked and poked through the laminate Two boards out of the 30 I have pulled out of the boxes have had minor scratches, but nothing too unsightly. The plastic screw covers they include are kind of lame - the screws don't sit deep enough for the caps to be flush.

Overall, this appears to be a nice organizational tool for the money!
