In the fifth installment of the British Phyllida Moon series, poor Phyllida's Scottish holiday--intended to include some romance--is interrupted by an acute gallbladder attack, requiring emergency surgery and subsequent supervised recuperation. While rehabilitating in a high-end nursing home, Phyllida, a private investigator who moonlights as a TV actress, is surprised to run into her old nemesis, Inspector Kendrick, who has come to the convalescent home to investigate strange goings-on. Several recent deaths, all caused by premature heart attacks, look suspicious to Kendrick. The always cagey Phyllida prolongs her stay at the home to help with the investigation, much to her adversary's surprising delight. But can Phyllida, whose normal m.o. is to snoop in disguise, solve this mystery without a protective ruse? Dewhurst' s writing is quick and her plot twists beguiling. A pleasant diversion for cozy fans.
