5.0 out of 5 stars Another treasure by a gifted writer, January 4, 2003

There is no book by B.J.Hoff that I wouldn't recommend. But if you buy this book, you need to buy the Ashes and Lace sequel. It's a marvelous spellbinder, which has made the rounds of my family and back again. I also recommend the Emerald Ballad series which I never let too far from home. They are well worth the price whatever you pay.

5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting....You can't put the book down!, March 30, 1999

B.J. Hoff is one of my favorite authors. Her characters are always real-to-life, they are never unbelievable! Ireland has a beauty and a horror all its own, and Ms. Hoff portrays both. I just wish she would write the sequel--it has been two years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest, inspiring, grabs on and keeps going., March 19, 1999

Early 1800 period piece with many charaters. Gives a wonderful view of the troubles and trials of early Irish immigrants. Clean, Christian reading yet still has heart and story. Everyone is human and not above sin. The people are easy to like and make you want to know more about each and every person. I came to love them all. And wanted to shake some sense into a few. The only disappointment is not having the next Book. Where is it????

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Story!, October 6, 1999
By A Customer
I just read this and its sequel Ashes and Lace and will read both of them again soon! You just can't put her books down. Her characters are so real you feel like you know them personally, or at least wish you could! And the spiritual message is one of the strongest I've ever read anywhere, but she doesn't preach! Hope there's a third book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Was Fascinated Reading About The Irish On Both Sides Of The Atlantic., September 4, 2009
This is my first experience reading about the Irish immigration to America. I am in the second book of The Song Of Erin series- Ashes And Lace and enjoying it very much as well. This author is skilled at character development and making the settings so real that you feel the experiences of the characters! She has piqued my curiosity about the Irish immigration experience so that I am thirsty to know more. I may have to push some of the books on my TBR farther down to make room for her Emerald Ballad series first.
The Cloth Of Heaven will grab you and not let go until you reach the end. This is a wonderful, engaging historical series.

I truly enjoyed this rags to riches story about "Jack Kane". The very sad Therese Sheridan who fights to get from under great poverty.
