Beware, falling clothes,

Dancehall's favorite Boombastic Angel is back with another scorching sizzler, and with a collection of hot guest artistes to boot. This is the sixth studio album from the Jamaica-born Orville Richard Burrell (nice name change Shaggy) the guy who gave us "Oh Carolina"; "Boombastic"; "It Wasn't Me"; and "Angel", among others.
From the time I put this album on, I started hitting the dance floor, which was a bit hard to pull off as I happened to be at the office at the time. Fortunately, there were other folk similarly addicted, including the boss. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to dock somebody's pay for dancing to Shaggy during office hours anyway. "Clothes Drop" starts with a steel pan intro, and erupts into something sounding like an adult Dub version of "Candyman" from Willy Wonka. The next song is the dancehall ready "Ready Fi Di Ride", a rude dance track; followed by "Broadway" which samples "Tribal Natty" with its "I'm broad, I'm broad, I'm broader than Broadway" hook, and it never sounded better. Next up is the first single "Wild 2Nite" featuring Olivia of G-Unit, followed by "Back in the Days" with old pal Rayvon; and the excellent "Supa Hypnotic" with Nicole Scherzinger of the red hot Pussycat Dolls. He takes it down a notch with the reggae ballad "Would You Be" with Brian Gold, encourages us to "Stand Up", and then lo and behold, he preaches to us in "Repent" which is one of my favorites on the album thanks to the background vocals and chorus. And there are more great tracks too - like "Ultimatum"; "Shut Up and Dance" with Will I Am of the Black Eyed Peas; and "Don't Ask Her That" a funny track, once again with Nicole Scherzinger. Depending which version you have, there are some bonus tracks too, and the UK version has a whopping FIVE extra tracks. This is one of my favorite new albums, and one I have been playing non-stop for hours. Amanda Richards, September 20, 2005

This is another wicked album from Shaggy. It had me rocking from start to finish! I really like all the tracks on the album. For me the main stand out tracks were:
Clothes Drop(really like the beat); Ready for the Ride; Broadway (this is my second favourite track -the Barrington Levy sample is wicked!); Wild 2nite (Olivia from G-Unit charms this one up!); The 2 combinations with Nicole Scherzinger, Supa Hypnotic & Don't Ask Her That, are both fun songs with cool beats; Stand Up, Gone With Angel and Repent convey great messages; Love Me Up(Nice beat and well written); Ultimatum is a pretty cool laid back R&Bish song; Shut Up and Dance delivers (as is often the case with the Black Eyed Peas' work); Ahead In Life (my favourite song!! It's hilarious!! Guess what he's talking about? I think this is on par with the big hit It Wasn't Me!!!); Road Block (sweet song; great to hear Rik Rok again!); and Letter to My Kids is a really cool little song with an even cooler beat. I am sure the music lover will enjoy this album. It's a must have.

I WAS DANCING SO HARD, MY CLOTHES DROPPED!,
This review is from: Clothes Drop (Audio CD)
well not really...but it is some funky stuff. This was my first Shaggy CD (although I was always grooving with "bombastic" and "luv me luv me".
Songs have heavy beats and very easy yet fun to listen to. I just love Mr. Luva's voice. the CD is a bit top-heavy, but good enough to get 5 stars.

This is my favorite Shaggy cd. I have all of his other cds and I've been waiting for this one for 3 years. Now that it's here, I couldn't be more satisfied. I have the version with 17 songs. My favorite song is Gone With Angels, which isn't on this version. There are great tracks on this album. My favorites are Clothes Drop, Repent, Back in the Days, and Letter to my Kids. There are upbeat songs and slower songs that show his softer side. He is truly a talented man.

Clothes Drop,

Clothes drop is definitely a hot album. Its been a while since I heard from Shaggy but im glad I bought the album, its got alot of tracks that are club bangers for sure! My favorite track from the album is "Ready Fi Di Ride" but there are alot of others that are equally good. I think Shaggy really took it to the next level by making tracks that are obviously good for the club and radio but he also keeps it a little oldschool with some of the riddims he uses. I can definitely see why he is the best selling Reggae/Dancehall artist of all time.. Great album and a definite buy in my opinion.

Shaggy!!,
This review is from: Clothes Drop (Audio CD)
Well, finally Shaggy has dropped another album. One of the three most highly anticipated reggae albums of 2005 (the other two being Sean Paul's THE TRINITY and Jr. Gong's WELLCOME TO JAMROCK), Shaggy's Clothes Drop uses the usual mix of reggae and lovers rock-like elements(read R&B) to create a wonderful mix that will please any of his fans. A big plus for this album is that the songs are mostly original (i.e. no sampling of other artiste's music). The only song that employs Shaggy's (former??) trade mark of sampling is Broadway, which is done in such a way that it is more like a "combination" rather than sampling. Having said all this, lets talk about Clothes Drop. In my opinion, the best song here is "Would You Be" which features Tony Gold. It has a Maxi Priest-like timeless quality that makes it such a wicked tune (a potential single). "Broadway" is also a good song, which utilizes the "owner" of the tune, Mr. Barrington Levy, to great effect. Other highlights on Clothes Drop include "Supa Hypnotic" (a potential single) and "Don't Ask Her That", both wicked combinations with Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussy Cat Dolls, "Luv Mi Up" - a great song with a little old-school flavour, the tongue-in-cheek and extremely funny "Ahead In Life", "Wild 2Nite" with Olivia, and "Road Block" with the talented Rik Rok.
I gave the album only four stars for a few reasons: First, the ordering of the songs. The "conscious" tracks should have been placed at the end (like Shaggy has done in the past). Second, the album would have been tighter with only about 15 tracks. Nonetheless, Clothes Drop is a good purchase. Success will depend on what Shaggy will select as the next single. Overall, I am happy with the purchase and I WOULD SUGGEST YOU GO GET IT!!

Shaggy Does it Again!!,

One of Shaggy's best, if not his best CD ever. Very diverse rhythms and themes, with some interesting collaborations. The subject matter ranges from the very serious and thought provoking "Repent" and "Letter to my Kids", to the light and playful party tunes "Ahead in Life", "Supa Hypnotic", "Clothes Drop", "Don't Ask Her That" and "Would you be". If you are a big Shaggy fan, this CD is a must-have. If you are not, then it is definitely worthy of a listen. I guarantee you'll become a fan after listening to this CD.

Clothes, beats, and lyrics Drop this time around,

Shaggy drops by in the '05-06' to give us another hit album after his last one broke records and set him apart from his reggae counter parts. The title might be a lil decieving in makign you think its more of the norm in lyrics and beats that happens a lot in reggae soemtimes....but not the case here. While shaggy dosent go too far out of norm for what you know him for in his singing style....he does give you a mix of different topics. Party tracks, Concious tracks, Lovers rock tracks and Pop. He gives you a lil bit of everything that he has done sucessfully over the corse of his career. He starts things off just right with the first hot track with Olivia called "Wild 2 Nite". And what else?..Songs like:
*Ready fi Di ride - Hot beat *Broadway *Wild2Nite *Back in the Days - A retrospective track *Stand Up *Repent - Gets a lil concious on this one *Ahead in Life *Ultimatum *Shut up and Dance - Will.I.Am does his thing on this one One of the top five tracks ont he cd *Dont ask her that - another hot track *Road Block Overall these are the best tracks right here. Now only time will tell if his album will gain some heat and start to get soem attention. So far sean paul and damien marley have been getting better promo and response but we will see. I would say this is a definite must have for shaggy fans as well as reggae fans. I didnt expect too much from this one so it was a good surprise. Dont just take my word for it. Get it!
