What if the da Vinci Code Were More Fun?,
By
This review is from: Cloud Crash: A Technothriller (Kindle Edition)
I found this book on a forum posting and thought it might be a little technical. But it's only 2.99, so whatever.I was so surprised! It was hilarious and impossible to put down. I read the da Vinci code and this was like it, but a lot more fun. There's puzzles, but there's also real characters, a sense of humor, and a "big picture" idea (that you can ignore if you like). It's fast, fun, and smart. The one thing I'd say I didn't like is that it seemed like the author was a little jealous of these silicon valley types. But then again, I am too!

This cloud is not in the sky,

I'm not a tech guy, but I have some idea what "the cloud" is. My e-mails and documents are in the cloud. My Facebook status messages and photos are in the cloud. My twitter blurbs are in the cloud. So if the cloud would collapse, a part of my life would disappear. This is happening in Cloud Crash. Websites are down, services are unreachable, the Internet is collapsing, because data centers are detonated. The CEO of Bioze calls Cal Stevens, consultant to find out who is behind this conspiracy. Because for Bioze it is not only information which is at stake, but the life of hospital patients are in danger, whose treatment is handled and followed by cloud computing applications. If the Bioze data center crushes, people dies. So Cal does his best to get to the man who is not afraid to kill anyone between him and his target. Fortunately Brianna Cowell is helping him, who turns out to be an agent. I liked that the story is fast paced. I liked the characters too, because they were not perfect, but human. I liked the idea of erasing "the cloud". I liked the book.

Cloud Crash is a pretty fast paced book, even though it's long. It definitely made me think about all the movies, emails, and photos I see in the "data cloud." I appreciated the look at Silicon Valley and the characters' interest in lots of different things. A plausible and fun read.

Who Knew Clouds Could Be So Interesting?,
This review is from: Cloud Crash: A Technothriller (Kindle Edition)
This book was a gift, but I ended up actually liking it.It's basically about this spy guy who was a journalist. Anyway, he has to solve a bunch of puzzles and figure out who is blowing up these computer centers. He was pretty funny, and I liked the paranoid blogger guy too. He had big hair. There's also a typical diva lady and a socially awkward computer geek who liven things up. A lot of characters are in this, but they blend pretty well. Oh, and Cal Stevens also has an amazing apartment. When he loses it for not paying rent, I will take it (and also not pay the rent).

From the serenity of Silicon Valley to the mysteries of Area 51, the clouds are crashing all around,

Hotshot lone shark Cal Stevens is called in to investigate what appears to be a hacker trying to bring down the internet. Of course, it turns out to be far more than that.Cal's wiseass wisecracks in the face of danger may not necessarily make him the most realistic character, but he's great fun to be around and you could easily picture his dialogue working well in a movie. A pretty PR specialist, a conspiracy-oriented blogger, and a Tech "Czar" are among the many characters that populate this Cal Stevens novel. All of them are infused with their own unique personalities. While the unraveling mysteries do provide the reader with some weighty food-for-thought, Cloud Crash is ultimately a fun action romp with cool characters, nice banter, and prominent locales. The ultimate beach read!

Great read!,
This review is from: Cloud Crash: A Technothriller (Kindle Edition)
I got this book from the author who offered it free to a small number of people.I loved this book, it has murder and mystery; conspiracy and secret agents; bloggers, ex-newspaper reporters and TV celebrities. All tied into a great story line. I will be looking for and purchasing other Cal Stevens novels.

Interesting Government Conspiracy,
This review is from: Cloud Crash: A Technothriller (Kindle Edition)
I didn't expect to find this in this book, but to me the most interesting part were the government conspiracies. The book debunks crop circles, addresses Area 51, and even talks about all the Czars that are showing up in the US.If I had a complaint, I would say that the book dismisses Area 51 a little too easily. There is actual proof that aliens were there, but it's still interesting to read the book's alternative explanation. Still, I know I wouldn't go to Area 51 without a gun.

Description Misses Half the Book!!!,
By MG (Wisconsin USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cloud Crash: A Technothriller (Kindle Edition)
I guess it's hard to sum up these books in a few paragraphs, but the description for this one misses a lot!Half the book is about this paranoid blogger (Julian Assange type, but not blonde) who is tracking down a big conspiracy. He's very nerdy and I like him. The author did a good job weaving together the big ideas and both plots. There weren't any loose ends, but I was surprised all the way through. I just kept clicking and clicking to finish....

Class A Thriller With Relevance,

When I started this book, I had no idea what Cloud computing was. Now I see it everywhere. This book has a hook- cloud computing and our lives- that will only get bigger. You need to read this to open your eyes to the risks. But really the book is good because it's a class A globe-hopping thriller. The characters are unique and funny, the locations are sexy, and there's enough scene changing to keep it fast paced. Read if you want to pick up a thriller that's a new take on the genre.

This was such a fun book! Phil Edwards has created believable, well developed characters in this book. There's fast paced action, danger, intrigue, mystery, geeky nerds, sexy secret agents, and a hero to identify with. Definitely worth buying! I look forward to more books by this author!
