This item is a WONDERFUL idea, and the on-the-go model is the perfect size for home (I don't know who would need the size of the original, larger sleep sheep - it's enormous) and travel, but it has two key flaws:

1) there isn't a continuous play mode!! There are only two timed options, then the sound turns off. My newborn needed the sound maintained continuously to STAY asleep, not just to FALL asleep. Thus, we would have to keep pressing the button over and over, waking up ourselves when the sound would turn off to keep her from waking up - beyond annoying.

2) the travel ("on-the-go") model does not have the heartbeat sound like the full size model does - why? Otherwise, the sounds are the same as the full size model (waves, rain and whales). As the heartbeat is a KEY sound to have for a newborn, why on earth would THAT be the sound they substituted out on the travel model for a redundant "gentle stream" sound (could it be to get you to buy both sizes?!?)?

I gave it two stars because everything else is so wonderful and it has so much potential to be a fabulous product:

--the sheep is adorable, soft, and it is great to be able to hang it from ANYWHERE with the velcro loop. Plus, it is battery operated, which is a huge blessing (batteries are pre-installed, and are very long lasting - we did not replace ours over three+ months of use).

--the way the sound "machine" is removable from the body of the sheep is ingenious. This way, you can wash the sheep and reinsert the machine when dry.

--LOVE the volume control: it's a dial, so you have complete control (not just low and high like so many children's products today).

--The rain sound is the closest to generic "white noise."

This product would be perfect with the 1) heartbeat sound in lieu of the 'gentle stream', which is redundant to the rain, imo, and 2)a continuous play mode.

Due to this, you are better off with Brookstones sound machine, which has not only timed settings, but continuous play, AND all the sounds you really need: heartbeat, in-utero (weird sloshing sound with "glub-glubs"), white noise, automobile and more. It's not cute and plush (and you have to plug it in w/ battery backup), but is WORKS.

I bought the Gentle Giraffe because I thought it was cuter and more unique than the Sleep Sheep. However, many of the sounds on this are more suitable for play than relax/sleep. The "giraffe" noises on the first two selections jarred my son when he was trying to sleep. We didn't like the heartbeat--he didn't find it soothing--so we just used "Victoria Falls" (the water sound) which worked OK, but is nothing special. I think the sounds on the Sleep Sheep To Go are much more relaxing and pleasant and they have worked much more effectively for my son. It's a shame you can't get the good sounds in the cute giraffe, but oh well. Maybe my little guy will like his giraffe more when he gets a little bigger.

For any parent who is raising a baby using gentle Happiest Baby on the Block soothing methods this "Sleepy Sheep" is a lifesaver. Babies really do respond to swaddling, being on their sides or stomachs, jiggling and "shush-ing" noise. We have used all of the white noises on this sheep and they all work to various degrees. We found the ocean sound to be closest to a parent "shssssh/shush" with breaths in between. Rather than shssssssh your lips off till your throat is bone dry, this Sheep does lots of the work for you and can be adjusted in volume for any ambient noise. Great item and did wonders for our little one's "4th trimester" She switches off like a light now when she recognizes the preparation and sheep sounds! Every new parent with a fussy baby should have this as a tool along with the Happiest Baby DVD!!! Great Item.

My mom was going to purchase a sleep sheep for our baby (her first grandchild), but I didn't care for one. One of the couples in our childbirth prep class had the sleep sheep on the go on their stroller and expressed that it's been a lifesaver for them.
I found Gentle Giraffe on the Go on the Cloud B website and was interested in it over the sheep. We don't go anywhere without it and we regret the one time we forgot to put it back on the carseat. The sleep button/sounds was our favorite and is so effective it would put my husband and I to sleep too! We got our baby accustomed to the play sound because it was hard to have the sleep sound on while in the car driving when the sleep sound makes you sleepy. Our baby never cared for the calm and relax sounds. Regardless, we wish we had this from day 1. While he is in his swing, it's the sounds of Gentle Giraffe on the Go not the Nature Sounds playing from the swing that put him to sleep. We love this product so much, we recently purchased the full size one for his play yard at Grandma's house.

I purchased the giraffe instead of the sheep or the dolphin because my son loves Sophie the giraffe. I also bought it to replace the LeapFrog Learning Baby Tad which has a night mode. The LeapFrog only has 2 volume settings and low was almost as loud as high.

PROS:
-The volume can be changed with the volume dial
-Sleep timer: 23 and 45 minutes
-4 sound tracks: safari with drum beats, jungle waterfall with a frog, white noise track and heartbeat.
-Removable sound box; you can wash the giraffe and keep it clean (unlike LeapFrog)! It measures 4.5"x3"x0.9" and weights 5.3oz
-The velcro straps are long enough (6"x2) to attach the giraffe to a crib and hang it
When I put him to sleep or when he starts to fuss, I pick one of the soundtracks and play it for 23 minutes. The sound track helps him fall asleep.

CONS:
-So far none

I would definitely recommend it to new moms! A must have!

This is really a good product. Main thing - it can play either 23 or 45 min. You can choose from 4 different soothing sounds. Also - the product has a volume knob, so you can adjust the sound volume easily. There are good choice of sounds, our baby loves them all. Funny, but adults can use this item as a sleeping aid too.

Great! The sounds are perfect, my baby loves them all especially the whales. I love the fact that it has a volume dial and two choices of time. Small enough to pack and bring with you anywhere. Highly recommend.

I bought this for my daughter who is very colicky and hates her car seat. I strap this onto the handle & she calms down immediately! I love it! We attach it to everything, the side of her basinett, her swing, wherever she goes. Its wonderful!

This little lamb has saved us from suffering through sleepless nights. Our baby loves it, especially the whale sounds. Really works to calm her and soothe her to sleep almost immediately.

We love the giraffe, and our baby loves it, too. We use the white noise sound the most because it sounds like a fan humming. We turn it on every time our baby goes to sleep, whether a nap or at night. Two things I don't like that cause me to not give it five stars. I wish it had an option to let it run continuously. I am sure this is to save batteries, but it would be nice to have that setting as an option because sometimes my baby wakes up when the timer is done. Second, I wish there was an easy on/off switch. If you want to turn it off, you have to turn the volume knob all the way down and off. Not a huge deal, but it would be nice to not have to turn it back on with the volume knob because then you have to readjust the volume next time you use the giraffe. It is convenient that the battery pack comes out easily so the giraffe can be washed, and this version comes with a velcro loop to attach him to a car seat or elsewhere. One of the sounds is a jungle drum beat with giraffe sounds mixed in. I can't say I had any idea what a giraffe sounded like before I heard this toy!
