Yes. I think it is especially if you're familiar with your baby's diaper changing habits.

My son was 11 months when I gave him this to help soothe n comfort him at bedtime. I find this toy totally safe for under two years old!

The batteries work really well. I use the lady bug every night usually twice a night and I would say they last at least 3 months. You will notice, however, when first replacing them that the stars are really really bright! As time goes on they get dimmer and dimmer. But that's OK. My daughter loves her "stars and Moon"

I got the alligator and he is skinnier but projects just fine. I really like the hippo too.
