Ubu Does Pop - in their own quirky style,
By Rich Latta (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cloudland (Audio CD)
I'm not really a fan, so I haven't heard all of their stuff, but I suspect this is their most accessible album. These are fun songs, some are pretty catchy. Dave Thomas' vocals are high-pitched, wild and warbling (as usual). If you like the wacky style of early Talking Heads, there's a good chance you'll dig this album.

Pere Ubu II hit its stride with second effort.,
By Mostly Harmless "George" (Mountain Home, AR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cloudland (Audio CD)
After the hit and miss "Tenement Year" the resurgent Pere Ubu rounded off a few of their quirkier edges and cranked out an exhilerating, almost user-friendly set of rockers. From the first breath of "Breathe" they draw the listener in with an inexhaustable motherlode of hooks. The buzzing and howling and usual impeccable musicianship is no less rewarding for being burnished a bit, and songs like "Waiting for Mary," a joyous pop romp, retain enough of Ubu's prescious anarchistic imagination to reward the challenge of repeated closer listens.

Should be in every serious audiophiles collection,

This album along with Worlds in Collision should be in every serious audiophiles collection. Certainly the most mainstream of all of Pere Ubu's works but at the same time sublimely subversive. Catchy as a deadly virus and widely available and very affordable.

Why isn't Amazon still importing this!,
This review is from: Cloudland (Audio CD)
The rating is for the original release. This a great album, although the first songs have a slight edge as they kinda work as a suite. But I would like get this issue as it is the original form it was delivered to Fontana Records in 1989 before they we required to re-record some songs and have some others remixed. According to David Thomas of Pere Ubu this is still available in the UK, why not here? Literally here. At The projex ubu site this available for $11.00
