Book Description

Kildonan History October 31, 2000
Seven talisman stones were said to have been torn from Clovenstone, the fabled stone of power, in a past so ancient that it existed only in legend. Harpers sing of a once proud unified Kildonan before the time we do not name. Now Kildonan is a patchwork of petty feudal kingdoms, warring with each other. Histories, libraries, creativity have disappeared. Only scraps of the poetry and prophecy sung by bárds hint at the pastand future. A professional warrior, an herbalist, and a harper hope they have three of the ancient talisman stones. Together, with dreams of reunifying Kildonan. they set out on a quest to prove the prophecies and seize the mythical Clovenstone. A white bear, a flying cat, and a Little Person join them. The seekers decide to trek the land as a troupe of players, earning their way with shows of harper singing and magic tricks. Thieves, sucking bogs, border wars plague the rag-tag troupe. Storms at sea, attacks from horrible creatures will they all survive? Is there really a Clovenstone?

More About the Author

I call myself a writer because I write things. I write about what I do, like travel. I'm creating a series of entertaining on-the-road books for the armchair traveler.

I write historic fantasy novels. Two are published, the third is coming. I was once a teacher and a park ranger. I led high adventures like climbing and caving. Those times spent with Beowulf and belay lines enrich my books.

Now I'm a writer. I don't watch TV. I seldom read newspapers. I write.
Well...I do go out to lunch, uh, fairly often, and love to shop. I drink wine, too. With peanuts. But in between times, I write.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clovenstone is a winner. Dont miss this book..., April 10, 2001

Not since I first discovered "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien many years ago have I been as engrossed by the creation of a fantasy writer as I have during my initial exposure to "Clovenstone" by Ruth McIntyre-Williams. Succinctly put: "Clovenstone" is a wonderful read. Her landscape is detailed in its reality and her characters are fully drawn. While Tolkien drew upon Germanic and Nordic mythology, McIntyre-Williams cleverly draws on the Celtic mythology of her heritage.

This is a classic quest story starting with the introduction of one lone heroine drawn by her destiny. As the story progresses she is joined by other characters until the questing party is composed of a half dozen characters both human and mythic. There are mages, warriors, little people and shape shifters all coming together for the quest. This 700-page tale of these fascinating folk and how they fare will keep the reader entertained for night after night. The book has a satisfying ending that still leaves the reader hungering for more. Ms. McIntyre-Williams promises a sequel and I for one can't wait.

If you like Tolkien, the Eddings, Anne McCaffrey, Norton, Pulliam or Brooks you will enjoy Ruth McIntire-Williams. This is fantasy for adults. Her language is accurate and phrases well turned.

If you liked Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series or JRR Tolkiens Lord of the Rings, you will love books written by new author Ruth McIntyre Williams. A very exciting read that is also suitable for children.
