4.0 out of 5 stars Cool little thing! Only downer is pricey accessories--but see my tip.
I just got my felting tool in the mail, & have tried it out a little & it seems great-- I've also read many positive reviews on crafter's websites. I think this is probably going to be a handy & pleasant tool to use. My one problem with it is that Clover wants you to buy their special brush felting mat to use with the tool, for another $16 or so. Now, you do need...

2.0 out of 5 stars Extremely fragile.
Clover is a basic, no-frills brand that I've trusted in the past for bamboo knitting needles. This product seemed like a great idea.
It's got 5 needles instead of 1 to increase your felting ability. It also has a clear plastic cover which slips down over the needles after each "stab" to prevent injury. The needles are extremely sharp, so a built-in safety measure...

Now, you do need something to felt onto, but I've just discovered that using a tightly-wound ball of scrap yarn (mine's wool, but I don't know why acrylic wouldn't work--cotton might be too hard & break the needles) works fine as a surface to felt into, as long as your applique isn't very big (because it's a curved surface & it might get tricky to felt something big--though I guess you could just do it in sections? I'll be experimenting... :-) Anyway, hope this tip helps someone out. Note, though, this WILL ruin the ball of yarn, so it should really be scrap!

5.0 out of 5 stars Faster needle felting!, August 7, 2008
This is such a great product! It is comfortable to hold and easier to store than loose felting needles. I also bought the special brush pad to use with this, but in most cases I think this Clover felting tool works better with a normal felting foam pad underneath (so long as it's thick enough). The five needles are easy to switch out, and it can accommodate felting needles of different lengths.

The needles are extremely sharp, so a built-in safety measure would be great, particularly for younger kids (age 8 + is recommended) who are learning to felt. But after about 15 minutes of use, 4 of the 5 needles bent and two broke off completely. I'm not particularly heavy-handed, they just snapped off. The steel is thin and brittle. Maybe we just got a bad batch? I am going to replace them once and see if the same thing happens. An update will follow...

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY USEFUL AND EASY TO USE, February 18, 2008
If you want to needle felt by hand, this is the tool. Accompanied by the needle felting mat, it makes it easy to make soft beautiful items.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes for quick felting!, November 24, 2009
This review is from: Clover Felting Needle Tool (Kitchen)
This is a great needle felting tool! I love that it speeds up the process and makes it easier to felt faster. The locking mechanism is nice and it's very easy to change out the needles. I even bought a second one and heavier needles so that I have one full of fine needles and one full of heavy needles so that I can switch back and forth while making a project.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great items for attaching felting to knitted postcards, March 6, 2010

I generally use this type of needle-felting tool to attach felted designs to the face of the knitting on my knitted postcards. For example, I attached felted heart shapes to my knitted Valentine postcards and shamrocks to the knitted portion of my St. "Paddy's" Day knitted postcards. It takes only a few minutes to get the shapes adhered to the knitting, and they add interesting embellishments to this type of craft. These tools are absolutely perfect for my purposes.

4.0 out of 5 stars small, nice tool, January 9, 2010

this tool is small, but it works great for small projects. the five needles are housed inside of a 3/4" plastic safety ring, which must be unlocked for it to work. believe me, for 5 minutes i couldn't figure out why it wasn't depressing, only to realize i still had the safety on. the needles are VERY SHARP. i accidentally put one into my finger because i wasn't being careful with where i was jabbing and holding my wool.

4 stars only because i wish there were more needles in the head - you have to punch many times over the same area to get a secure effect.

5.0 out of 5 stars very good tool, February 25, 2010

I wanted a felting tool that would speed up the process & that's why I purchased this tool with 5 needles. I have the single needles & have used them before but this is wonderful. I have only used it once but plan to make more things with it. I'll probably use this 5 needle tool more than the single one. However I found that when making animals I find the single needle more useful because of the more detail work when laying the thick wool on the felting matt. You only want to cover a small area at a time & the single needle worked better for me. This 5 needle however is a very useful tool.

This is a nice little gadget. I am a beginner felter and I find this to be a very easy tool to use. It is comfortable to hold. The needles can be easily removed to replace or interchange sizes and it locks so there are no injuries if a child or pet gets their hands/paws on it. I am very pleased with this product.

This felting needle may be good as a beginning tool for felting, but needles broke after about the sixth project. May look for something better next time.
