5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable for home tailoring
Chalk in the shape of a guitar pick. This is by far the best option I've found for marking adjustments on garments in progress, tracing patterns, or drafting onto raw fabric. These are bigger than other chalks. And you sharpen all the edges, so every edge can be used to mark. This is clay chalk; easily brushes off.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great chalk, buy local.
This is really great marking chalk, but the last one I ordered from amazon arrived in several pieces. therefore, I'd recommend looking for it locally instead of at amazon. also, Jo-Ann has comparable chalk for a few bucks cheaper (don't remember the brand. it's not quite as nice, as it's square, but a square is better than a broken chunk of a triangle).

If you've ever cut fabric around tissue-paper patterns, you know it's awful. I find it easier to trace the pattern and cut. Or way better: trace and then check your size and make easy adjustments on the fabric before you cut. This is the same chalk some bespoke tailors use to hand-draft patterns onto wool for cutting suits, etc.

Buy this chalk. You never knew how easy it was to mark on fabric and draft patterns.

I guess, if you're buying a bunch of chalk, it might be alright. amazon shipped mine in a flat cardboard envelope. I doubt their standard airbag in a box would've kept it safe, either, though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Found a LOWER$$$!, May 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After I bought it on Amazon I was on Joann fabric's website and saw it for much cheaper! It was only $1.99 and I bought it for $6.49! Remember to check around before thinking Amazon always has the cheapest prices. Most of the time they do.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best marking option, especially with Clover sharpener made for them, February 2, 2011

I first encountered these when I lived in Japan many decades ago, where I found fantastic Clover products I still have never seen in the US. I also found there a sharpener made specifically for this chalk, and while it is difficult to describe, it restores a razor-sharp edge in seconds which leaves the sharpest, most definitive line on fabric that I have ever found, so sharp that it is completely covered by a single row of ordinary stitching. (Thus, what does not disappear through stitching is covered up.) Combined with the easy-to-hold size and shape, nothing else compares. There are no frustrating breakages during sharpening as there is with chalk pencils, as often happens repeatedly when you sharpen with the conventional-looking sharpeners sold for them. If I could find a source in Japan, I would buy a quantity of them simply to offer in my online store, as they are a godsend. You can use sandpaper taped to cardboard as an alternative, but it is not nearly as fast in renewing the edge.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless to me, May 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I got three of these in different colors; red, white and yellow. The red is ok. The white was cracked. The yellow was broken in pieces. Naturally the yellow was the most expensive at $6.54. It was packed in a box between a wheel scrubbing brush and a hardback book. No packing in between, just plastic air pillows on top of everything. I guess the book slid sideways and crushed my chalk. I am very unhappy with this carelessness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great chalk, poor Amazon delivery, May 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This really is great chalk for marking sewing patterns. I am new to sewing and I had trouble figuring out which pencil/chalk/pen would mark my fabric without leaving a mark or something I couldn't see. This chalk works great, I have the white and just bought the red since I need to use it on lighter fabrics too. My big complaint is with Amazon's shipping. The chalk arrived broken. And, I want it and it's too small of an item to return for the hassle. The box was way too big and the chalk was really small. It's the second one I bought and the first one was packed the same poor way and it broke too. I love this product but probably won't buy this item from Amazon again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oldie but goodie, March 21, 2011
This review is from: Clover Triangle Tailors Chalk, White (Kitchen)
The tailors chalk has been used for a long time and it still works so well! I've tried a few modern inventions (chock pencils and such) but the tailors chalk still works the best! Whether you are shortening pants or skirts, making a new garment, or working on a quilt it leaves great clear marks and lasts a long time.

I find it to be an indispensable tool in my sewing tool box. I highly recommend it.

A good item to have if you sew, quilt or machine embroider. I find it though a bit high priced.
