This Guide is indispensable in preparing for the CLSC Certification. The book achieves an effective balance between conceptual and "hands-on" discussions. These discussions are skillfully mapped to real-world enterprise networking issues, empowering the reader with practical knowledge that can be directly applied, both on the exam and in the real world. This book is a must-have in the toolkit of the CLSC-bound networking professional.

This book walks you through the CLSC curriculum providing detailed explanations of terminology, switching concepts and sample configurations that will help you understand and digest Cisco Switching. This is the first book to provide the reference and study material necessary to prepare for the Cisco CLSC Exam #640-404, without this book you will have to rely on using the CLSC classroom text, lab guides, and Cisco Manuals which, in my opinion, lack sufficient explanation and detail needed to prepare for the exam. If you are preparing for the CLSC Exam this book will defenitely help.

Finally, a good resource for Cisco's CLSC exam and Catalyst products. I appreciated the level of detail and focus on enterprise configurations. This book contains insightful information that I found very useful.

One good thing about this book is that it gives a breakup of the CLSC Sylvan Paper, telling you how many sections are there and how many questions are there from each section. This book is a summary of the CLSC course taught by Cisco around the world. It is recommended for people who do not feel comfortable with LAN Switching concepts... The books is very heavy on the Cisco Catalyst 5xxx switches and provides extreme detail. If you are following your CCNP track, this book is the OFFICIAL one. So get it. Pay special attention to the Catalyst 5000 chapters espcially the ATM and FDDI modules. :-)

Outstanding resource! This book is exactly what the title states. An exam certification guide, maps the test objectives directly into the book and provides tools that help you test your understanding. Good discusions on technical concepts with clear and definative explanations. I am taking the test soon, I will let you know how it goes.

Talk about an information packed book. I am working towards the CLSC exam, and this book really is the resource I need to complete my study library.

Each chapter starts with a quiz, and then covers the material with clear diagrams. The included CD-ROM includes practice tests and flash cards among other resource related material.

CLSC Exam Cert Guide is designed around the published study points for the test. Some of the topics covered are : network architure, switch configs, switch software, management, ATM and FDDI modules.

If you are actually studying for this test, then this book is a must have, and if you have ANY cat switch in your network, you best bet it to read this book and learn how to *really* use it to its full potiental!

I have some lammle's book, but i always prefer cisco for it's easiness to read, systematically, and their closeness to the course objective.

Therefor, If you're going to take CLSC I would remommend you to use this book. This book will ensure high probability of passing rather you read other book.

Going to take it in 2 more days, with high Confident.

I've read through 8 of the 15 chapters, and I like what I see so far. It maps each exam objective out, plus gives you some 'background' information that is not actually needed for the test, yet helps you understand the 'big picture'. So far, I would recommend buying this book for the exam, as I cannot forsee the rest of the chapters taking a nosedive south.

It's a great book! It provides you all required information for passing exam and gives you some additional background in switching. And it's just in 450 pages!

I found answers to all exam questions in this book and some phrase were exaclty the same. It's really, really nice book!

Sorry to dispute all the other reviewers, but I spend some time with the Cisco Documentation and found that this book is almost entirely a "cut and paste" effort from Cisco Documentation. I found entire areas that were merely "pasted" into the book and others (e.g. Chapter 7 & 8 on VLANs) where the material was simply repeated from the previous chapter word-for-word.

No effort was made by this author to edit or explain the Cisco concepts. I always thought a book like this would contain explanatory material - but alas it was not to be!

Since I have yet to take the test, I can't comment on the substance of the material -- but only on the fact that I could have obtained the same material -- verbatim -- from Cisco's site. Too bad!
