ENTER ERIC AND ALCIDE- this is going to be fun,
By Buggy "SUNNIE Day reader" (British Columbia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Club Dead (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Bk. 3) (Paperback)
CLUB DEAD is the third instalment from the Sookie Stackhouse series and I really enjoyed this one having finally come to terms with the fact that this is urban fantasy (and not paranormal romance) I was able to focus on the action, horror, humour and mystery aspects here and just let the romance take a back seat. Sookie is starting to feel like a delightful, adventurous friend who I can't wait to hear from to learn what adventures she's been up to lately. And with the broadening of sub characters and reappearances and "sightings" from others this series feels alot like coming home.Charlaine Harris continues to entertain with a fast paced, easy writing style and original ideas. She also manages to still keep Sookie relatable enough, despite her progression into the supernatural world that we can discover every bizarre occurrence right along with her. Sookie toughens up in this book, makes some new `friends' and sort of comes into her own. And although I was at first disappointed by Harris's storyline choices for Bill (what an arse he turned out to be) Eric and arrival of Alcide sure made up for his absence. Leaving things wide open and this reader very curious as to where exactly things are heading in the romance department. Lately Sookie's vampire boyfriend Bill has been a little absent, having more of a relationship with his computer and "project" then with her. When he suddenly announces that he's taking an extended business trip to another state Sookie realizes something other than vampire business is going on. Before long the bodies start piling up at work again, after a werewolf gang member tries to abduct Sookie and ends up face to face with some hard hitting but simple blue suede shoes. Enter the ever sexy and cheeky Eric, who informs Sookie that Bill's been kidnapped while spending time with an old flame in Mississippi. (So much for business) Now Eric needs Sookie's mind reading abilities to help locate Bill before they torture him to `real' death. Despite the obvious betrayal Sookie agrees, although she might just kill him herself once she finds him. Sookie soon finds herself under the care of one fantastic and yummy werewolf named Alcide Herveraux. They have an immediate connection and make a great team although romantically their timing is never quite right (what with all the body dumping, ex fiancé's and flying vamps coming to call) Alcide is to act as Sookie's date and guide while in Jackson, gaining her access into the otherwise off limits, Club Dead. This is where the vampire king of Mississippi hangs out whom they assume is responsible for Bills disappearance. Before long Eric turns up in another of his quirky disguises and general carnage ensues. The action in this book is non-stop with vampires and humans alike getting staked and of course it's a full moon which brings every beast in town out to play. It's a ton of unputdownable, blood spattered fun.

Better than Season 3 of True Blood,

I really loved this book, and while I'm a huge fan of the show True Blood, I find that the characters are more endearing in the books. Alcide was just to DIE for. He was just a sweet and thoughtful man, and I was so glad to see that they had a few moments of bliss in the book. Thank you GOD! Eric is more likable as well, and I never thought that would be possible. Sookie's narration is one of the best parts of this series. Her take on things is so fun to read. I have to say that I definitely prefer the book to Season 3 of the series. There's just not so much "weird" stuff going on, so there's more explanation of the events taking place and the characters within them.

a good read,
This review is from: Club Dead (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Bk. 3) (Paperback)
i love the hbo true blood series and started to read the books the series was based on. usually the books are better than the movies or tv shows but not in this case. there were times i had to go back a couple of pages to reread because what i was currently reading didnt make sence. that happened more so towards the end. it seemed like mrs harris was either in a hurry to write the book or bored with it. yet, ive read the first 9 books and since i got that far i will continue the series.

This review is from: Club Dead (Sookie Stackhouse series) (Mass Market Paperback)
Club Dead takes off right where Living Dead in Dallas left off. Bill has been kidnapped and its up to Sookie to find him with a little help from Eric. Introduces some great new charactures and the story line keeps flowing. Charlaine Harris does not disapoint. You can't help but to fall in love with all the charactures even the ones you are suppose to hate. Also book follows very close to the HBO series. A must read for fang bangers like me who can't get enough of vampires.

This was a replacement book for me. I lost the original book that came in the 8 book set. This one was in very good shape and arrived quickly. I was very pleased.

Bill needs to go away,
This review is from: Club Dead (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Bk. 3) (Paperback)
Not really liking Bill much these days. What a jerk. I hope it doesn't take Sookie much longer to dump him. To treat her that way then just walk back in with "My Sookie". Ugh. Get a stake. As for the actual story, I enjoyed it, although I'm wondering how many more ways Sookie can get beat up. I was a little confused when Eric explained how Bill got kidnapped. It seemed like he left something out or maybe I just didn't catch all of it. I loved Alcide and I hope we see more of him.

Third Time is Not the Charm,

It isn't that I didn't like Charlaine Harris's 'Club Dead', it's just that I expected so much more. The other books in the series have held my interest much more than this book. The problem, for me anyway, was the pacing. Some unimportant scenes seemed to drag on while a few of the climactic scenes were over so quickly that I hardly had the chance to process them. This book will not keep me from reading others in the series, but I have to say that I was disappointed.

Awesome Read,

Okay I know I said book 2 was my favorite well I changed my mind book 3 is now my favorite. I seen some similarities the show used but all in all it was almost a completely different story. One thing I gotta say if I didn't love Eric before I sure do now this book sealed it for me.There is a couple scenes in this book I wished they would have included in the show, both revolved around Sookie and Eric. I won't say what they were because if you haven't read the books I don't want to give them away but lets just say my heart melted. Bill you didn't see much of in this book and when he did , he came across as indifferent and I'm not sure what to think other than I hope at some point he redeems himself for me. I do like Bill. A few final thoughts, one being,It is so hard not to compare the books with the show. But as much as I love Alan Ball's vision of these books, I am finding myself loving the books more. Second,As most of you know I wasn't a big fan of first person views until just recently and I am certainly glad this is written that way though I wouldn't mind other characters POV's once in awhile. One final thought,I absolutely love the way Charlaine writes, and she has a new fan who is eager to just keep on reading this series til she ends it. Now I am off to read the 4th book Dead to the World which from what I'm hearing is the best book out of the bunch.

Quirky Fun Series. Easy to read.,
This review is from: Club Dead (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Bk. 3) (Paperback)
Again, no super in depth plot that requires a lot of thinking. The writing is easy to read and yet she does a good job to develop the characters. I enjoy these types of books that do not require a lot of thinking and you can just enjoy a nice read.
