It worked really well for my golf trip, but when I got home I discovered that the cap which the "umbrella" screws into basically broke off. Hopefully this can be repaired with some super glue. Very disappointed.

I would highly recommend this extendable post to use inside your soft golf bag cover to protect club heads from impact on the top. This really adds to my confidence checking clubs on the airplane because I have seen baggage handlers drop golf bags on their tops and use them to bridge across gaps stacking more bags on top. The interior post will help protect from both of these abuses.

This one works great, there's three telescoping sections, allowing for easy adjustment to a wide range of lengths by pushing in the spring-loaded buttons and sliding the tubes up and down. It's plenty sturdy. The stiff rubber 'mushroom cap' on top arches over your driver and woods.

If you're looking for that little extra security with a soft-sided cover, look no further.

I can see this being the diffrence between a broken driver and not. This extends to past your longest club and is very sturdy. It will survive the falling weight of your whole bag if the clubs come off at baggage claim club heads first. This is a must have if you fly with a soft cover. It could save an expensive driver on its first trip.

The stiff arm is a must for your travel bag. Have you ever watched your clubs come off a plane? The stiff arm adjust easily and the plate unscrews for easy storage.
Thanks--JH

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for traveling on airlines with your golf clubs, December 17, 2011

I wouldn't consider traveling on an airline with my clubs without one of these things. While it is possible to come up with low budget alternative like a cut dowel or broomstick to protect one's clubs from vertical impact, I really like the adjustability of the Stiff Arm and the fact that because of its mushroom shaped head it also provides additional lateral and impact protection for nearby clubs.

Whenever I pack my golf bag for an airline I always place my more fragile (and expensive) driver, fairway woods and rescue in the middle of the bag around the Stiff Arm for the added protection of the mushroom.

I also feel that having this allows me to use a less expensive travel bag. The added protection that it provides makes me comfortable using an inexpensive ProActive The InFlight Rolling Golf Bag Travel Cover. So, by buying this inexpensive little device I saved money by purchasing a basic travel cover.

The "Stiff Arm" worked as advertised during our travel with golf clubs. Gave us re-assurance no damage would occur to any of the clubs, despite probably some poor handling at some point.

It protected my driver and woods, inside the club glove bag. Easy to set up and take down as well as storing when not in use. Its a very good product to have with your club glove bag.
Yesterday, I saw the bag coming out of the baggage chute head first and the chute was about a 30-45 degree angle that tied into the baggage conveyor. I know that the top of the bag hit the backstop and with the padding of the clug glove and the stiff arm, it probably saved my driver and woods from damage. Good product to have.

We inherited 2 soft-top travel golf bags from my parents last year. Unfortunately, we pulled them out for our trip to Mexico and realized that they did not have the stiff arm we needed to ensure that the clubs weren't accidentally crushed during transit. Found these after a quick search and they arrived in time. The are expandable and worked great.
