I have both the Club LB200 Personal Vault Security Lock Box and the SentrySafe AS-1 Autosafe. This is one of those cases where I wish there was a product that incorporated the best of both as neither is perfect. This is a comparison of the two:

Pros SentrySafe:

The SentrySafe is the more sturdy of the two and the cable remains attached while it is opened. All security features are internal.

Cons SentrySafe:

The SentrySafe is taller and will not fit under the car seat. The SentrySafe has a narrow width and barely holds a 2-inch J-frame revolver. The cable is fairly short. I had to add a second cable to the SentrySafe to be able to move it to the front seat while still attached.

Pros Club LB200:

The Club LB200 is larger in width, shorter in height, seems to holds more, and will fit under the car seat. The cable on the Club LB200 is about 8 inches longer which is nice in a full size SUV when you reach over to the back seat to retrieve the box. Those 8 inches really make a difference.

Cons Club LB200:

The cable on the Club LB200 must be removed in order to open the box; however, I prefer the ability to easily detach the box and bring it into the front seat without the cable.
The cable anchor is what the lock latches onto; meaning that there is an external part that can effect the security of the box if compromised.

Giving it a 4, but be careful, gun owners. I am very happy with this box, considering what it is. Will this stop a smash-n-grab (recently a victim), yes. Will it stop a serious burglar with some time? No. You will need bolt cutters or a good pair of lineman's pliers and some time to make off with it, and you will need time and tools to open it. I debated giving this a 3, but since dimensions were listed, I decided to take the blame for not checking further into it. For anyone looking to secure a firearm, please read:

I read the answer to one question (buyer beware, check for yourself), which said it would fit a 1911, said,"Yoo hoo", and ordered. Unless this person has a "compact 1911", he hasn't tried it. This is NOT meant for full frame sized handguns. Glock 22 will not fit. Full frame 3" .357 will not fit. (3" barrel)

The dimensions of this box were not designed with a gun owner in mind. It will just barely fit a compact Glock, but has room to stack a sub-compact on top of a compact. (See photos) Ruger's SP101 snubbie fits okay, but not with a ton of room.

The box is tall. Fits under my pickup seat fine, (Silverado and Tundra both), but too tall to fit under wife's Camry seat without a shoehorn, and the seat all the way jacked up. Would be much more practical to make it flatter with a bit bigger footprint.

I think the box is high quality, convenient to use, but probably not the best option for handguns.

Hope this helps.

I just picked this up at an auto parts store for $12.00.. brand new!! What luck!

Some have posted the con about having to remove the cable plug to gain access... it is not really a big deal. It is rather easy to to and takes but a second. The pro to the plug is that it is large and prevents the drawer from being forced out.

Please keep in mind that this is not for every day use and quick access. It is primarily intended to keep a valuable item inside your car while you are away during a smash and grab. Most criminals are not going to hang out trying to force it open or cut the cable. They want to be in and out before the cops are called.

The inner box is thin and spot welded. If you really want to get in... you can with the right tools.

It is better than the glove box, center console, or under the seat. Those are the spots criminals look when they break in to steal your stuff.

I bought this & the Master Lock 5900D SafeSpace Portable Safe, Gunmetal Grey at the same time. Although the Club LB200 costs about twice as much, it's well worth the difference in price.

The Club LB200 is made of heavy metal, & weighs about 2-3x as much as the MasterLock 5900D (which is made of a polycarbonate plastic, or similar material). In terms of drilling, hammering, & using a screwdriver to pry open a lock box, there's a big difference between a heavy duty metal & a thin plastic.

The Club LB200 has much more interior usable space than does the MasterLock 5900D (which cannot hold even the equivalent of two packs of standard size cigarettes). I prefer a keyed lock (like the Club) to a combination lock (like the MasterLock), but I personally am more likely to forget a combination or the location of where I recorded the combination, than I'm likely to forget the location of a key, but that's a matter of personal choice. In any case, the Club is very easy to open, & the MasterLock is not (due to the difficulty of rolling the dials; see my review for that item).

I like the fact that the Club's cable is removable (it comes with a securable metal plug to fill the hole left by removing the cable).

In short, I would trust the Club LB200 to secure some of my personal belongings, but all I would use the MasterLock 5900D for, is to teach a child about security, combination locks, & protecting valuables (in theory, at least).
