5.0 out of 5 stars A great remixed anthology.
Released shortly after the ANTHOLOGY (or THE VERY BEST OF CESARIA EVORA) album, the one and only diva of Cabo Verde melts our heart (and blow away our mind this time) with her light-heartedly deep vocal amidst the splendour of remixed sound masterminds.

2.0 out of 5 stars Kind of disappointed....
I'm not sure who their target audience is on this album (Evora fans or danceclubtechno fans). Judging by the fact that there are no reviews for this cd, apparently no one is buying it!

I have a couple Cesaria Evora cd's. I love her voice, love the music; it just seems like you're on a tropical ocean village when you're listening to her cd's.

I also like a fair...

The great opening PETIT PAYS by Chateau Flight comes in mesmerizingly different beat with a hypnotic background trance. Carl Craig's light base ANGOLA quickly followed up to kick start a party mood from a repeat chorus arrangement slowly adding to a swirling groove. By the end of the next NHO ANTONE ESCADERODE, the highlight sets in. The tantalizing Señor Coconut's BESAME MUCHO, a new level of chachacha sound experience as much as you can maximize a dancer's stamina.

Two chiller tracks passed, Cris Prolific's yearning NEGUE closes the soulful gap post a B-side mellower journey begun by 4 Hero's MISS PERFUMADO. Immaculate lenthy sythesizing, the right timing and the most confident track way to win a remix lover's heart. And not long after ANGOLO re-emerged twice back to back with more remixes, François K has us contently find the exit with a moderate vampy version of SANGUE DE BEIRONA.

This dance collection is comparatively durable to play and listening to. Wonderful, timeless and missing it is unimaginable for the fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stuck on an island on a rainy day? Listen to this!, February 3, 2005

Bondad e Maldade has a great beat, Negue is hypnotic and Sodade reminded me of Rozalla's 'Everybody is Free'. Cesaria's unmistakeable alto voice lulls you while the beat make you want to shake and sway. In between, a comfortable, melodic heaven any music lover will enjoy.

I truly "like all kinds of music"...as such I make it a point to deliberately expose myself to a whole host of different genres. That said, I can't remember the last time the part of my brain that identifies music with a label ("that's mushroom jazz...or, that's neo-funk) has been so confused.

This CD is so fresh, so completely unique, but still comfortable?! From first listen there is attraction, with each listen, your seduced by new things you find in the rhythm, with the lyrics, the "other-worldly" samples...

If you love this CD, consider Federico Aubele, or Sisi.

Hope this was helpful...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fresh Take on Already Exciting Music, March 8, 2004
By A Customer

Remix albums can be shaky territory. I always worry when an artist I like comes out with any kind of remixes because the true tone and attitude of the work can get lost in the use of technology and the realization of someone's creative vision who didn't take part in the original recording. However, as a longtime fan of Cesaria Evora I'm happy to report that this is a very tasteful and enjoyable cd of remixes. It contains none of the harsh, overly bright digital sounds that I normally associate with this kind of music. The remixes bring a fresh and modern sound to the music while at the same time calling the most attention to Cesaria Evora's voice, which is stunning as always. The songs are energetic, organic-sounding and danceable. I think that fans of Ms. Evora and the djs who contributed to this album will be happy with this disc.

This is truly too good....rock on Cesaria and all the musicians doing the remix!!! Now I must buy this CD for myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars How oh how could I have missed this artist?, December 31, 2005
This review is from: Club Sodade (Audio CD)
I bought this CD because I heard Besame Mucho on the radio at 5 am. Within 8 hours, I had the entire CD with me, and listened to that song for about 2 hours straight! Anyone who is in love (the song means either Kiss me much or kiss me many times), will fall in love with that song.

I have not been exposed to Cesaria before this remix album, so I suppose I am not getting the full gist of her power. However, from what I can tell, this woman has the most passion filled soulful voice that literally moves you from within. The music is coming from her voice, no musical accompaniment needed.

Other favorites were Sodade (stunning) and Nho Antone Escaderode (breathtaking).

Most of the sound effects are nice. I am very much into rhythms so I didn't mind it. However, on my favorite song Besame Mucho, there is a 15 second intro that for the first few times sounded like the CD was skipping. Also, I found that while I liked the music, what I longed to hear more of was this woman's voice. For that reason, I expect to purchase many more of Cesaria's albums.

I have a couple Cesaria Evora cd's. I love her voice, love the music; it just seems like you're on a tropical ocean village when you're listening to her cd's.

I also like a fair amount of dance/techno/electronica/ whatever you want to call it. So I expected this to be an interesting, good cd.

It somehow misses the mark. Most of the songs are really bland and a bit repetitive on the remixing. They don't add a lot to the originals; rather, they take away from the originals. You lose that world-ly feel that you get on the originals.

Therefore, I wouldn't recommend this one new or used. I'd stick to the regular albums only.

4.0 out of 5 stars barefoot remixes, March 3, 2004
By
This review is from: Club Sodade (Audio CD)
i thought i'd never hear something like this. well, ok i kind of thought i would, what with the blue note releasing so many of their songs to be remixed by the "hottest" dj's around right now. the results are always 50/50, some of it's cringeworthy, and some it is innovative and refreshing.

club sodade teeters much more heavily on innovative and refreshing. i remember my first cesaria evora record. it was Diva Aux Pieds Nus and it came out around 88. i was taken aback by the naturality of it all and the true colour of her voice. this record maintains that sensibility while taking to a 21st century vibe, complete with remixes by Carl Craig, Francois Kervorkian, and Kerri Chandler. i personally dig carl's the most, but overall, it's a wonderful disc to have on during a sunday afternoon or a drive through green pastures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Morna Chill, February 26, 2004

Remix albums of world music can easily slip off the mark, offending both world music purists and techno-beat lovers. Admitedly, it takes an open mind to hear the Queen of Morna, Cape Verde's barefoot diva, remixed and pro-tooled by today's hot remix stars... if you've got an open mind, and open ears, venture in. Downtempo remix stars Chateau Flight, 4 Hero and others reinterpret Cesaria's hits with respect for the originals. If you like Madredeus' remix album "Electronico", or Thievery Corporation, or similar, you're on safe ground here. I gotta wonder what the barefoot diva herself thinks about this, though...

5.0 out of 5 stars Cesaria Evora's remix hits!!, March 30, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Club Sodade (Audio CD)
I bought this CD as a late birthday gift for my niece this past Saturday and when she came over to pick it up Sunday night, we had to listen to it and WOW!!! My 14 and half year old daughter just loved #2. Angola (Carl Craig's Remix). My daughter and niece had it on repeat and were dancing non-stop. The whole CD is impressive, great remix rhythm and groove from each individual DJ to go with Cesaria Evoria's sooth sultry singing. Other favorites was #4 Besame Mucho, #5 Bondade E Maldade & #6 Sodade and of course both #9 & #10 Angolas. After my niece left with her new CD, my daughter told me that I had to get this CD, so Monday morning before going to work and school, I ordered it through of course amazon.com. Can't wait to get it!!!
