5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the Best Hardcore Album I've Heard Yet..., April 26, 2008
This review is from: Clubland X-Treme Hardcore 4 (Audio CD)
Clubland X-Treme Hardcore 4 is indefinitely the best album in the Clubland X-Treme series. CXH1 was pretty good, #2 was better than the first, #3 was somewhat dissappointing, and now #4 brings the series to a new level. In three CDs there is a multitude of outstanding tracks, many exclusive remixes unable to be found anywhere else. Read the track-by-track section below for further detail.

CD1 - Mixed by Darren Styles
1. Intro
2. Darren Styles & Francis Hill - Come Running (A-)
-Right away the album starts with a pumping track. Great vocals, enjoyable riff (even though the song should have started at the breakdown).
3. Dougal & Gammer - Don't Stop, Go (B-)
-You'll keep on dancing, but this one seems a bit more of a filler track.
4. Darren Styles & Hypasonic - Baby I'll Let You Know (A-)
-The vocals are very well done. A huge improvement over the last track.
5. Re-Con - Beating of the Drum (Can You Feel it) (B-)
-Another filler track.
6. Nalin & Kane Feat. Denis the Menace & Alex Prince - Beachball 2006 (Cruising) (B)
-Surprisingly, this remix, while it is pretty good, could have been better done. The riff is too dark and doesn't quite fit the mood of the song.
7. Hypasonic & Jorg Schmid - Doesn't Matter (Squad-E Remix) (A)
-I'm torn between this hardcore version and the scouse version on Clubland 12. The song in general needs a second verse, but otherwise this song is near perfection, especially during the chorus. I guess the hardcore version lacks the power that the regular had at the end of Clubland 12.
8. Darren Styles & Whizzkid - Girlfriend (A-)
-Having loathed the Gym Class Heroes song "Cupid's Chokehold", this hardcore remake is surprisingly amazing. This song doesn't really compare to some of the other tracks on the album, but it's a classic anyway, if only because of catchiness.
9. Gammer - Rippin' (C+)
-I took this one off my iPod, for a reason.
10. Darren Styles Feat. Andrea Britton - Show Me the Sunshine (A)
-Andrea Britton is an amazing vocalist, and almost every song she touches turns to gold ("Take My Hand" by Jurgen Vries, for example). After a song on CLX1, she returns to the hardcore scene with this outstanding track.
11. Sy & Unknown Feat. Lou Lou - Hands of Time (B+)
-The tune on this one is really catchy.
12. Styles & Squad-E - Party People (B-)
-A dissappointing track from two of my favorite hardcore artists. It takes a sample from "Whoomp...There it is" by Tag Team, but with very little tune here there's not much to get excited about.
13. D:Code Feat. Emma - Like I Feel (Squad-E Remix) (A)
-Having loved the version on Clubland 11, this hardcore remix of the original only makes the song better.
14. Ultrabeat Vs. Darren Styles - Paradise & Dreams (A+)
-If you follow AATW, you might remember that this track was featured on Clubland 4 by The Force, and was on Ultrabeat's latest album. I never really cared for this song until I heard this version. This is hands-down my favorite song on this disc.
15. Darren Styles - Jealous (Specialist Sound Remix) (C+)
-The original version on CXH2 was really well-done, but this "hardcore-breaks" remix is dissappointing.
16. Dougal & Gammer - Wii Go Crazy (B+)
-Once the breakdown starts, you will really like this song, especially if you have played any Game Boy game. The riff is supposed to sound like a chiptune, and actually works well with the hardcore beats.
17. Darren Styles Feat. Junior - I Need You (Sy & Unknown Remix) (B+)
-I personally liked the original version on CXH2 much better, but Sy & Unknown's remix does not dissappoint.
18. Darren Styles & Francis Hill - Light of My Life (A-)
-Really good.
19. Sy & Unknown Feat. Emily Reed - Love For Life (B+)
-The riff is catchy, but this song might take a bit of time to grow on you.

CD2 - Mixed By Mark Breeze
1. SHM - You & Me (Breeze Mix) (A-)
-The lyrics are stupid and cliche, but the music in this song is amazing. It transforms from a breaks track into a full-on hardcore track with a great beat.
2. Paradise - See the Light (Styles & Breeze Mix) (A-)
-This is the only remix of this song I can tolerate besides for the epic KB Project Mix on Clubland 10.
3. Micky Modelle Vs. Jessy - Dancing in the Dark (Breeze Mix) (A)
-It's about time this song got the hardcore treatment! The Dancing DJs Remix on Clubland 9 still wins the prize, but the piano in the breakdowns is amazing here. The beat is a bit too loud and gets a bit annoying, however.
4. Breeze Vs. Lost Witness - Rise Again (Sy & Unknown Mix) (A-)
-This is the best remix I've heard of this song.
5. Manian Feat. Aila - Heaven (Breeze Mix) (A-)
-While it would have been nice if AATW could have gotten rights for the DJ Sammy version to remix, this version actually works well.
6. Re-Con - Save the Rave (B-)
-The vocal loop is catchy, but nothing else about this song really stands out.
7. M&C Feat. Rebecca Rudd - Magic Touch (Squad-E Remix) (A)
-This is the best remix of this song out there.
8. Breeze Vs. Unique - Sometimes (A)
-While the song lasts about six minutes, it's completely worth it, especially when the main riff comes in after the first breakdown. Again, the beat is a bit too loud, but it is forgivable.
9. Styles & Breeze - Electric (Specialist Sound Remix) (B-)
-The first few seconds of the song are good, but then the beat comes in and I press the "next track" button.
10. Katie Jewels - Burning Love (Breeze Mix) (A+)
-And the "Catchiest Song on the Album" Award Goes To...^^^
11. GSDX Feat. Aimee - The Dream (Breeze Mix) (A-)
-The guitar riff at the beginning of the song is really well done, and the rest of the song is pretty good as well.
12. DJ Demand - Dark & Light (Re-Con Remix) (B)
-Good to dance to, but then the next song comes on, and you forget all about it.
13. Styles & Breeze - Come With Me (Unique Mix) (A+)
-The best song on the disc (and I "Burning Love" couldn't be topped). The build-up before the beat comes in after the breakdown is insane. Get ready to be wowed.
14. Breeze & Ritmen - If I Were You (A-)
-The vocalist sounds eerily like the original vocalist for the track (Candee Jay). This is a pretty good hardcore remake.
15. Breeze & UFO Feat. Vicky Vee - Maybe (A-)
-Usually UFO's tracks have weird sounds which ruin the tone, but they for the most part work well in this great track.
16. Breeze & Ritmen - Don't Go Away (B+)
-The riff saves this one.
17. Styles & Breeze - Do You Want Me Honey (Force & Ritmen Mix) (C)
-This one is incredibly annoying.
18. Breeze & UFO - Filthy (B)
-Wait for the tune to come in.

CD 3 - Mixed by Hixxy
1. Hixxy Feat. Taya - Take Me To Heaven (B+)
-This has Cascada written all over it, except it's faster.
2. Hixxy, Dougal & Gammer - Phaze 2 Phaze (B+)
-Hmm...weird one. However, the last few "phazes" get interesting.
3. Frisco - Sea of Love (Hixxy Mix) (A)
-This remix got me into this song. I really didn't care for the original version, and Hixxy revives my faith in Frisco.
4. Hixxy & Re-Con - Need Your Loving (B-)
-After hearing Marc Et Claude's outstanding version of this song, I have been somewhat biased towards it. The vocals really do not work here, though. At all.
5. Hixxy - Time Comes (Sy & Unknown Mix) (B+)
-Pretty good.
6. Starstylerz Feat. Michy - Keep on Moving (Hixxy Remix) (B+)
-Good remix of this song, but I liked the FNP/Dancing DJs Remix on Clubland 9 better.
7. Hixxy, Sy & Unknown - Be the One (A)
-The best song on Hixxy's disc, this remake of the Deborah Cox classic "I Never Knew" is very well done.
8. Hixxy - New Day (B+)
-Good music on this one.
9. Hixxy & Re-Con - Dance With Me (B)
-Not that interesting.
10. Hixxy, Dougal & Gammer - Dark Skies (A-)
-The vocals are good, and the tune is even better.
11. Hixxy - Perfect World (A-)
-Same comments as the last one.
12. Hixxy, Sy & Unknown - The "C" Commander (B+)
-...
13. Hixxy & Re-Con - Love Comes Version 1.1 (B)
-Don't expect to find lyrical genius in here, but the tune works.
14. Hixxy Feat. LOL - Love Leaves No Scar (A-)
-Pretty good.
15. Ultrabeat Vs. Darren Styles - Sure Feels Good (Hixxy, Sy & Unknown Mix) (B)
-This remix could have been done better. Some of the remixes on the single are better than this.

Overall, the Styles & Breeze discs reign supreme, but the Hixxy one falls short. However, there are too amazing tracks on this 3CD package to care too much about the mediocrities on others. If you like Hardcore or vocal trance, you will love this. The speed isn't difficult to get used to, but it will definitely be difficult to go back to electro after hearing some of the tracks here.

STYLES DISC: A-
BREEZE DISC: A
HIXXY DISC: B+
OVERALL: A-/A
