5.0 out of 5 stars I Love the Nancy Drew books!
The Nancy Drew books are all really great. But this one really caught my eye. It's about Nancy, Bess, and George going to meet Cecily, and trying to solve a ghost mystery. They figure out more of Cecily's past and solve the mystery about the mysterious boat. If you want a really great book, read this one and Carolyn Keene's other fantastic Nancy Drew mysteries. (The old...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, June 12, 2000
By A Customer
The key of the broken locket is my favorite mystery book because there is so much suspence, which I love. I recomend this book to sixth graders, who love mysteries, mostly because it's amazing and surprising. I'm sure that anyone who reads this book will enjoy it, because it's really for any age. **Natalie**

Just when you think you've got this one figured out, Carolyn Keene pulls the carpet out from under your feet.

I write about the original version which was written seventy years ago. The other version just isn't that good.

Nancy tries to figure out who is responsible for giving birth to the two babies adopted by the Blairs, a wealthy couple very much involved in the arts (she is a famous actress adored by all her fans and everyone in River Heights is thrilled to death that she is living among them, while her husband is an erudite director on the model of Erich Von Stroheim). The babies though, were not only adopted but practically stolen from a young desperate mother of twins who took a locket and broke it in half to be able to prove the maternity of her two beloved babies. This book will shock you down to your soul with its revelations of the way some people just adopt babies for "show." I wonder if Joan Crawford had the chance to read this book in the 1930s and that's where she came up with the idea of adopting the twins in real life! If so, she probably was very sorry eventually. Was there a broken locket in the Crawford case as well?

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved Nancy Drew as a kid!, December 6, 1999
By A Customer
These Nancy Drew books are the best! I love the fact that you can now find them published the way they were in the 1930's. I read the books with a touch of nostalgia of days gone by. These books completely transport you to those days. They are a good read and are as good to pit against the Harry Potter books which I have also read. (also wonderful)

5.0 out of 5 stars Nancy Drew #11 The Clue of the Broken Locket, March 3, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Clue of the Broken Locket (Nancy Drew, Book 11) (Hardcover)
I would highly recommend this book for any Nancy Drew book collection.

It all starts when Nancy sees a key near her place at breakfast. Mystery & Suspense build as she investigates the double of Cecily Curtis, a phantom launch that was drowned years ago, & the mysterious noise coming from the location of Pudding Stone Lodge. How Nancy Drew solves a family mystery involving a Iron Bird & kills a counterfeit operation will keep the reader in suspense from beginning to end!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Exciting Nancy Drew Book Ever!, April 18, 2005
A Kid's Review
The Clue of Broken Locket is a excellent book! Nancy Drew's investigations lead her to Pudding Stone Lodge, where the Driscall family lives. While Nancy is there she hears strange humming noises and a scratching noise in the attic. When Nancy investigated, she saw a frightening girl who had fled the lodge many years ago. That leads Nancy to another one of her mysteries!

I recommend this book to kids who like mysteries, adventure, ghosts and nice long chapter books. I like this book because it keeps you in suspense.

5.0 out of 5 stars 40 years later this is still my favorite!, June 17, 2004
By
My story is this - when I was 10 my Aunt Margaret gave me my first Nancy Drew book. It changed my life. REading became my passion. Now 40 years later I still think back on that experience. I read them all. (At least all judged by 1966 standards.) But the clue of the broken locket was the BEST! Happy endings to top all endings. KIDS KEEP ON READING.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Revised Edition Is Better, May 15, 2003
By
J. Thiel "jtthiel" (Nova Scotia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review concerns the original 1934 edition as well as the revised 1965 edition, which is a completely different story than the original. In the original edition, Nancy becomes concerned over the welfare of twin babies recently adopted by the Blairs, an actor and actress, who only adopted the twins to further their social standing. The babies are neglected by the Blairs as well as the nursemaid hired for them and Nancy becomes determined to find the twins mother, convinced that she did not willingly abandon the children. How Nancy finds the babies' mother and reunites another set of twins seperated for many years is an interesting; although, not very exciting story. This edition is very well-written, the characters are well-defined and the story is intruiging, but the book basically lacks a criminal (the Blairs aren't criminals, they're just not nice) and as such there was very little action and excitement. If you read Nancy Drew to be excited, don't read this book, but if you enjoy an interesting story, by all means give this one a try. In the revised edition, Nancy, George and Bess travel to Misty Lake and meet Cecily Curtis who provides the girls with two challenging mysteries. First, her fiance is a successful music artist who suspects that his record company is cheating him out of some of the royalties from his songs; however, the company swears that they are being honest with him. Second, Cecily is searching for a long-lost family treasure she believes is somewhere in the area; a broken half of a locket being her only clue. Also factoring into this story are the apparition of a launch which sank in Misty Lake many years ago and a frightened girl who closely resembles Celily, but continually runs away from Nancy and her friends. This is one of the few cases where I liked the revised edition of a book more than the original. The book is surprisingly well-written considering it was published after the late 1950s when the quality of writing in the series went grossly downhill. The mysteries are very intriguing and the book almost has a spooky quality about it. The original edition I would rate 2 stars, but the revised edition I would rate 3 1/2 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sydney Drew, May 9, 2011
A Kid's Review
This book has a mystery I want to solve badly! Its right up my alley because it involves a mysterious lake and hidden treasure. This was one of my favorites so far in the Nancy Drew series. Nancy is hanging out with Bess and George more than they usally do to solve a mystery which I like. And the mystery was well formed. Anyone would love to read this book that is so mysterious.
