From AudioFile

Nancy is approaching a house when, suddenly, it explodes and erupts in flames. Finding a diary at the scene, she follows its lead to solve a missing-person case that involves a swindler. Laura Linney has a matronly voice, expressive and sufficient of itself. The music and sound effects added for emphasis at times come close to overwhelming her fine performance. Still, Drew devotees should not be disappointed by this production. More About the Author

Carolyn Keene and Franklin W. Dixon are the pseudonyms under which many ghostwriters penned the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series, respectively. Both series were created by Edward Stratemeyer, founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate book packaging firm, in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Stratemeyer's daughter, Harriet, and syndicate writer Mildred Wirt Benson were the two people primarily responsible for bringing the iconic character of Nancy Drew to life in the minds and hearts of millions of readers around the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic Nancy Drew, February 2, 2000
A great book! This is the Nancy we grew up with and remember. Applewood books, keep them coming! In this book, Nancy is at the scene of a fire at a large mansion when she finds a diary. Unfortuneately, it is in a language she can't read. She also meets a woman whose husband is missing. Could the missing husband, diary, and fire be connected? Read this book to find out.

I love to read Nancy Drew books! They are so exciting! In this one, Nancy finds a diary at the scene of a fire which leads to another thrilling mystery. I encourage all mystery lovers to read this book! As in all Nancy Drew books, there is TONS of adventure, excitement and cliffhangers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dated Classic, May 11, 2004
This review is from: The Clue in the Diary (Nancy Drew, Book 7) (Hardcover)
If you want to get started reading Nancy Drew, this book would be the place. Of all the ND series, I think I enjoyed this one the most. While Nancy and her friends' activities and dialogue seem a bit dated (don't forget most of these stories were written long before you were born) Nancy is a wholesome character who is constantly busy observing her environment and sticking her nose into places it may not belong. Of course, this kind of behavior is what makes a story interesting. This book deals with arson, stealing patents, and helping an innocence victim find justice.

Wild bill recommends this book for mystery lovers aged 9-12.
