The puzzles in this adventure game give math, language, science, and problem-solving skills a workout through 15 different activities. Parents can set the skill levels to suit their children's ability, and can do this separately for different skills. As a bonus, ClueFinders 6th Grade Adventures comes with an Adventure Kit CD offering various fun activities, such as a map maker so you can plot treasure hunts or other map-based activities. --Sandra Vogel

Frustrating!,

This review is from: ClueFinders 6th Grade [OLD VERSION] [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
I purchased this for my child directly from her school. Initially, she was enjoying the game. But for one math section "Recipe for Disaster", it employs a "trial and error" method for solving problems, our whole family spent nearly an hour with calculators, and algebraic formulas to try to determine these amounts.
Example: You have to get exactly 1.451 ml of fluid. You have 4 cups measuring: 0.668, 0.577, 0.140, and 0.035. It is up to your child to determine which cups to use. It is all really just trial and error. In short, this part of the game is only serving to foster my child's thought that she can't "Get" math. It is frustrating for her, and she dreads having to play the game. I am frustrated because it's difficult for her father and I as well. Whatever happened to learning to basics? I am very disappointed in this section of the game.

The cluefinders 6th Grade is about two of the cluefinders have gone missing! So it's the other two's job to find them. They find themselves underground and have ended up in the plant peoples lair. It's the cluefinders job to find their friends and stop the plant people from destroying earth! I recomend this game to kids who are in 5th or to kids who are going into 6th.

Great!!,
A Kid's Review

Heya! You can call me StoryMaker. I've been enjoying the ClueFinders series for years, and I just finished ClueFinders 6th Grade. Like the other ClueFinders games, it contains fun games and a great storyline that keeps you hooked. And, like the others, it's loaded with educational value too! This title contains mathematical procedures such as addition applied to both whole numbers and fractions, science of many sorts, and some history to boot. The difficulty level was almost perfect for me - though a few things seemed hard at first, it's relatively easy to develop stradegies that help (for example, rounding numbers in the spores game and guessing if it's really too hard helps a lot). Also, I highly reccommend listening to the other ClueFinders when you get the problems wrong and the Red Video Phone pops up. They often have great suggestions! (Your parents and older siblings often have good suggestions too, if you're really stuck.) Though there aren't as many mini-games as some of the other ClueFinders packages (such as 3rd Grade and 4th Grade), the games that are there are very fun. As stated before, the storyline is quite engaging. The ClueFinders - Joni, Owen, Leslie, Santiago, and their floating laptop friend LapTrap - find themselves trapped in an underground world inhabited by anthropomorphic plants that apparently plan on overthrowing their hometown! They do end up befriending one of them, though, and they go on an adventure full of twists, turns and mystery. Though I can't say it's my very favorite ClueFinders plotline, and though a few elements aren't handled perfectly, it's great overall. In the end, I'd say this a great choice for a 6th Grader (though I reccommend they're at least a little on the smart side) or a 7th Grader who wants to review. As for compatibility, this worked fine on my Windows Vista laptop and on all the Windows XP computers I've played it on. I reccommend the other ClueFinders products, and JumpStart games as well. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!" (Note: When I played this game most recently, I was over 6th Grade. But I think that using the same stradegies I use can yield good results for younger kids as well.)
