3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, November 28, 2009
By
This review is from: The Co-Op (Audio CD)
Not worth throwing out the window but not worthy of veneration either.
- The Good:)
The cd starts out Raw with "School Of The Hard Knocks" I remember thinking to myself damn this cd's gon' be crazy! There are some sick tracks on it, most of them I had already heard (What It Do, Move Like a G, Buck Buck, Dolla Bill). It's got good bass as far as bangers go & some beats are insane (Move Like a G feat. Styles P!) The skits are hilarious, I find myself laughing at them each time I listen. There are some awesome verses put down by the other artists.

-The Bad:|
it's just really missing something. There is nothing original about this cd. He tries to go deep on "Shakedown 4 Life" but it just doesn't work. I first heard of Red Cafe when I watched Coach Carter & his joint "All Night Long" was by far one of the sickest songs I had heard that year. I was expecting to hear some of that on here but sadly there was nothing comparable. It seems that since he got a little shine doing songs with the Street Fam he has been getting worst by the minute, from mixtapes to The Co-op to Hottest In The Hood... He is not the hottest in the hood.

-The Ugly:(
The lyrics, this artist in my opinion is as good as Jim Jones and only good for features, as a solo artist he fails miserably. He has talent but I don't think he cares about Hip-Hop, so this is what happens. He sounds like a cheap imitation of Fabolous.

In conclusion, there are similar cds far better than this that came out around the same time (Silverback Gorilla, The Last Kiss). If you like an album with content, like me, I recommend you give this a thorough analysis before opening up your wallet.

On the other hand if you are a fan of RAP, if you are a "stunna" you'll love this. If you like southern style New-York beats you will enjoy this. It's ok but it's all flash no substance.

3 stars for the beats

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic from Red Cafe, October 29, 2007
By
This review is from: The Co-Op (Audio CD)
I've been a big fan of Red Cafe since I first heard him as 1/3 of the group Da Franchise (when he was known as R.C.), back around the year 1999 and finally get to hear a full album from him, after hearing him on around 2 dozen songs or so as a guset or on mixtapes with a freestyle or song here and there. Though the album is short, with only 12 songs, it is definitley worth it, and a top 3 album from this year so far (with Killah Priest's "The Offering" and Joell Ortiz "The Brick: Bodega Chronicles"). Of the 12 songs, guests are on all but 3 songs, but the guests are, for the most part, all worthy of their part. Of the 12 songs, 2 ro 3 are ok, the others are good, 1 being almost a classic, and most being real good songs. Production is great as well. J Cardim dopes 3 songs, GQ Beats does 2, MoSS, Trackmasters, Frequency, C-Note, Chemical Beats, Kut Us 'N and Rockwilder all do 1 song. A must have for fans of real NY street rap.

#1 - 9 (nice beat)

#5 - 8 (f/ Fabolous -- nice beat)

#9 - 9 (great beat)
#10 - 8.5 (f. Nina Sky)
#11 - 9 (f/ Shakedown Fam -- tight beat)
#13 - 9.5 (f/ Sheek & Glasses Malone -- nice beat)
#14 - 8.5 (f/ Shakedown Fam)
#15 - 7.5 (f/ Black Buddafly)
