Nineteen year-old Lady Allisandra is a ward of King Charles II. When he orders her from court to stay with her old friend Elizabeth Hastings, the Duchess of Langley, Allisandra finds herself trapped inside a coach-and-four with the notorious rake Lord Dorchester. Has the duchess betrayed her? Perhaps, but things are not as they appear, and whether it is Her Grace, the infamous earl of Dorchester or the king himself bent on evil, only time will tell. In the meantime, how does a strong-minded young woman handle first a highwayman, then a debauched earl? Find out in this tale of the late 1600s in England, when conspiracy and betrayal can lead to unexpected love.

Absolutely loved Coach and Four! I was entranced and completely caught up in her story!!! I didn't want to put it down, and couldn't wait to see what happened next. The best story I've read in a long time! I'm anxiously waiting for the next installment of "Allisandra's Tale"!

Delightful Short Story! December 21, 2011

Interestingly enough, this delightful tale by Linore Rose Burkard, takes place in a coach in which Allisandra FitzJames, the ward of King Charles ll, finds herself trapped en route to visit with her friend, the Duchess of Langley. When her coach is stopped and the duchess steps out, she trades places with someone, and Allisandra finds herself trapped inside with none other than the debauched and infamous Lord Dorchester. Lord Dorchester is a notorious libertine, welll known for his scandalous liasons with questionable ladies, and Allisandra is terrified to be alone with him; in spite of his quite handsome countenance!

What is her friend the duchess thinking, especially when Allisandra's coach was stopped by highwaymen just weeks before?...and one of the masked men had the audacity to steal a kiss from her, a kiss that Allisandra will not soon forget! Who was this masked man, and why is Lord Dorchester offering his protection to Allisandra? Is he to be trusted, and are his words of the king's betrayal towards her true?

There was only one thing wrong with this book...it was just too short! I loved it, for it reminded me of the masked man, Zorro, from my childhood days, who stole a kiss from many an admiring lady! Ms. Burkard's writing style is impeccable, and although the setting of this book is in a coach, there was never a dull moment! I really enjoyed getting acquainted with this "new to me" author's work; she truly knows how to tell a story, and I am looking forward to reading her full length novels!

Exciting and Romantic! December 19, 2011

I really enjoyed this short story by Linore Burkard, who is a favorite author of mine, as her Regency romances sit as keepers on my shelf. With Coach and Four she has crafted a deliciously exciting romantic short story, and it is somewhat based on actual historic events. If you like romances where the virtuous heroine redeems the rakish hero, you will love this! It is definitely worth the price!
