From Booklist
Gr. 9-12. Teens mulling over college programs and career paths will find excellent resources in these comprehensive guides in the Careers in Focus series. The books introduce a wide range of jobs. Art includes chapters about book conservators, art therapists, and museum curators, for example; Coaches and Fitness Professionals covers diet and fitness writers, motivational speakers, and yoga instructors as well as the usual coaching positions. Each chapter follows the same format, with information about a job's common duties and responsibilities, a history of the field, educational requirements, salaries, typical hours, and sources for more information. In addition, there are also practical tips on gaining experience in the fields while still in high school or the first year of college. The format is dry and uninspiring, illustrated with a smattering of grainy, black-and-white photographs, but these books offer excellent starting points for young people curious about the world of work. Recently revised editions of older series titles, including Entrepreneurs and technicians, are also available. Gillian Engberg
