What I like most about this book is it gives you great detail and leaves out the fluff. I switched to a 4-3-3 this season and while I already had a good grasp in the formation the book proved to be a great resource.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless, November 9, 2009

This review is from: Coaching the 3-4-3 (Paperback)
I've been coaching the 3-4-3 for a U13 team this year and picked up this book thinking it would offer some good practice exercises. It was an absolute waste of money and time. It did a poor job of explaining the advantages and disadvantages of this formation. In fact, it didn't show the adv/disadvantages against other formations ~ which is key.

The offensive/defensive schemes were redundant. For example, for at least a dozen pages, it just shows different examples of how the ball can be passed around in a 3-4-3 formation ~ brilliant! Five pages detailed how a wall-pass can work between the various players, "here's a wall pass between the center-mid and forward. Now here's a wall pass between the center-mid and wing," and on and on.

The exercises were poorly detailed, simplistic and were not specific to the 3-4-3.

I've been coaching for eight years, and perhaps this book was intended for beginning coaches. But, as a beginning coach (at least where we live) you play small sided games until U-10, so this book wouldn't be applicable.

This book was so worthless that it makes me think I could write my own book and do a better job.
