5.0 out of 5 stars Should be required reading for little league coaches!
This book is one of the best on the topic. Every individual skill is broken down in detail with easy-to-understand stick figure diagrams showing proper position and step-by-step motion. Sections on strategy and charts showing decision making hierarchy (example: less than 2 outs, 1 run lead or tied, runners on 1st and 3rd: what does 3rd baseman do on a ground ball? the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Technical
The good: plenty of drills and skills instructions for your practice agenda. The 'not so good': this book reads like a college text book. Not that that's a particularly bad thing but, unless you have a photographic memory, be prepared to take lots of notes to simplify your on field reference material. Secondly, the illustrations are hand drawn stick figures. I don't...

Sections on strategy and charts showing decision making hierarchy (example: less than 2 outs, 1 run lead or tied, runners on 1st and 3rd: what does 3rd baseman do on a ground ball? the 2nd baseman? the pitcher? etc.) are truly valuable. I'm trying to buy more copies for my assistant coaches so that we all teach the same methods.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best coaching guide available, November 2, 2000

I saw this gentleman at a clinic ten years ago and bought his book. He is one of the best teachers I have ever seen. He has broken the game of baseball down in such a manner that the rookie coach to the "old school" coach will benefit greatly. I use his book for the coaches in my high school program to develop a consistency of jargon and concepts. Buy three!

5.0 out of 5 stars good, specific information, easy to translate to your kid., December 5, 2011

Not a coach but a Dad with not much baseball playing experience. Chuck full of info. There are pieces I have taken out that have really helped my kid. Don't use the drills but like the tips and how specific the author is and how well you can translate that to your kid.

Outstanding book on the great game. As a youth baseball coach I have used this book as a reference for many years. Every detail of the game is covered, I mean every detail. The author knows the game very well and the book is easy to follow. Any baseball coach or even fathers of baseball players should have this book in their library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coaching Baseball: Skills and Drills, March 8, 2007
Coach Stockton's book is an excellent resource for both coaches and players. Positions are broken down and described in great detail for the coach to teach skills and drills are included to reinforce instruction.

I highly recommend this book for beginning players as well as advanced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful for any level, March 7, 2003
We had the opportunity to get to know Coach Stockton over the last 4 and a half years through his clinics, camps, and private lessons. We had this book in the first edition and the latest is even better and easier to read. Coach Stockton was very knowledgeable and was able to take our son to a high level of baseball using his methods. The book gives us a ready review of all the things we've seen with him and we've used it repeatedly (along with his video tape series which I also recommend) and took many things from the book to use on a team level also. Anyone wanting to get a book that gives you lots of good, useable information in an easy to understand format should use this book. As a female with limited baseball experience, I can honestly say that through this book, the videos etc. that I've truly learned a lot of good info from Coach Stockton. Now that he's no longer with us, I'm very glad we have such a wonderful resource available to use in teaching baseball fundamentals for any age group.

Dr. Stockton is the Premier baseball clinician. He is known as Baseball's "Skill Doctor." He has worked wonders on my son. I highly recommend attending his clinics, viewing his tapes, and reading this book.
He is not only the greatest teacher of the game: he is also a good friend.

If you're an experienced coach then this book would probably be a good addition to your library. If you're a new coach and just starting your library, you should consider "less complex" material.
