Poorly executed,
By Neoconslayer (Tucson, AZ, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Coaching Defensive Linemen (Paperback)
This book is poorly executed. Chapter 5 alone contains 107 diagrams. The first 7 are actually useful. After that, the incorrect diagrams (captions not matched to diagram) provide relief from the mind-numbing repetition of diagrams showing next to nothing. If the text is telling me (page 76) that there is no difference between what a 1, 2, or 3 technique defender does, do i really need to have three separate diagrams? With one of them being incorrect as described above?
Explanations of the different types of blocks are poor. Diagrams show nothing more than direction of travel. However, if you delete the 48 pages of chapter 5 from this 143 page book, it isn't bad. Good chapter on reads, another on stunts, and also on drills, although my program lacks some of the equipment used in those drills. I believe i can use about 1/3 of this book.

good book for players as well as coaches,
By Saints_DE (Dublin, Ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Coaching Defensive Linemen (The Art & Science of Coaching Series) (Paperback)
this book is great, as it goes thru in incredible detail endless ways of playing on the D-line, in terms of tactics, fitness and technique.
It goes thru all the moves that are vital for d-linemen to overcome blockers, such as rip, club, swim, bull-rush, plus more. It explains throwing of the hands technique, as well as proper body stance and footwork which is also important. on top of all the thoery, it gives plenty of drills for coaches to use also. all in all, its a comprehensive book on all things D-line! The only negative i have about the book is the fact that there should be better diagrams of how various schemes/techniques are used. U really have to picture it in ur head when reading the book, cause there is no photo diagrams only simple line diagrams.
