5.0 out of 5 stars I need this book
This book is what I have been looking for. I am called on to supervise the work performance of colleagues who comprise teams that develop cultural exchange conferences. I am embarrassed to admit that sometimes I have overlooked non-productive performances because I did not have the necessary skills to discuss my findings with those in question. 1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money.
This book is a good marketing piece for the author. Nice to have a book to impress clients with. However as a reader you can save your pocket change and find much better material in other books or reprints, many of them free on line. Or just read the following three sentences which is about all I could find of interest in the book, and nothing here is new. 1.) Emotions...

This review is from: Coaching for Emotional Intelligence: The Secret to Developing the Star Potential in Your Employees (Hardcover)
This book is what I have been looking for. I am called on to supervise the work performance of colleagues who comprise teams that develop cultural exchange conferences. I am embarrassed to admit that sometimes I have overlooked non-productive performances because I did not have the necessary skills to discuss my findings with those in question. I am happy to say that I now have the skills I need, thanks to Bob Wall's "Coaching for Emotional Intelligence." The book lays out clearly the necessary steps to take as a supervisor in sharing difficult and perhaps threatening information about job performance with another so that both supervisor and supervisee remain emotionally intact and improved. I've always thought "win-win" was the best way. Now, with the help of this book, I know how to make that happen.

However as a reader you can save your pocket change and find much better material in other books or reprints, many of them free on line. Or just read the following three sentences which is about all I could find of interest in the book, and nothing here is new. 1.) Emotions play a large part in interpersonal interactions so improve your emotional intelligence. 2.) When providing feedback, set the framework for the conversation, provide an observation of behavior and suggest ways to do things differently. 3.) Finding people doing things right and acknowledging them for doing thing right is a valuable way to motivate people. There I just saved you 20 bucks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Path to Success, January 21, 2007
This review is from: Coaching for Emotional Intelligence: The Secret to Developing the Star Potential in Your Employees (Hardcover)
I am astounded at how elegantly Mr. Wall has translated such a complex concept into applicable execution. He shows us not only what makes great leaders great but also how everyone can achieve a high level of interpersonal effectiveness. I have read several writings on Emotional Intelligence and this book, by far, not only gets to the heart of the matter but also evokes a personal journey.

Some years ago, I had the privilege of co-authoring with Bob Wall and our colleague, Robert Solum "The Visionary Leader". During the process of writing the book he was always concerned about creating a powerful and practical approach to the development of individuals and the organizations in which they work. Bob has done it once again with Coaching For Emotional Intelligence. As a consultant to organizations around the world, I have placed it on my "Must Read" list for them. I really appreciate the way that he has taken a challenging subject and created from it an approach that is supremely useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars A practical, logical guide that provides great information in an accessible manner, December 4, 2010

The Other Kind of Smart: Simple Ways to Boost Your Emotional Intelligence for Greater Personal Effectiveness and Success

Working in the same field as the author I continually read to expand my understanding and knowledge base. The author packs a great deal solid, no nonsense information into this book. It can be a daunting task to take a topic such as emotional intelligence and coaching and put it into an easy understandable and useable package. Mr. Wall has done an admirable job. A couple of things that stand out for me is the book talks about the importance of giving positive feedback properly.
This means giving positive feedback in a manner that specifies what the person is being praised for. I worked in an environment where praise was dished out in generalized terms to all staff and consequently lost all meaning.
A great amount of time is spent on helping managers prepare for giving negative feedback and asking employees for some behavior change. The author has developed some easy to follow models that will help managers with what is acknowledged to be a difficult task, requiring courage and commitment. I liked the way that the author spells everything out clearly without sugar coating or minimizing what is required. While most people are able to change, Mr. Wall is a realist and admits that there are indviduals that will not be able to or willing to make the changes that are required. Towards the end he points out that emotional intelligence is not prescriptive. There are individuals suffering from mental health issues that will need to have those issues resolved or controlled before being able to benefit from EI counselling. While this is a guide to help managers coach their staff, I found the information to be useful for all areas of life.
