About the Author

Stan Zweifel has been at UW-W since 1990. During his playing days, Zweifel was a wide receiver for UW-River Falls, being the team's leading receiver for two years, and leading the team in scoring in 1973. Stan's coaching background began in high school at Markesan, WI and New Ulm, MN, followed with a stint as the offensive coordinator at Northern Colorado University and as head coach at both Yankton College, SD and Minnesota-Morris before coming to UW-Whitewater.

Stan is known around the country as one of the finest offensive line coaches and for teaching the zone concept. Many high school and college coaches consult with him to find out the proper teaching progressions needed to run that type of offense most effectively.

Stan has authored and co-authored several football books, and has also produced three video series on offensive line play. His Whitewater offenses have been nationally ranked the past 5 years. He and his wife Diane have four children, Saree, Shannon, Mark, and Mike. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

1.0 out of 5 stars Explanation of blocking mechanics is missing, December 17, 2006
By
C. W. A. Averink (Alphen, Netherlands) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Buying this book, I was hoping to get an understanding of the body mechanics involved in zone blocking schemes. Unfortunately, this book makes the assumption that the reader is already knowledgeable of the mechanics, e.g. of the drop step and the bucket step. It isn't untill page 56 that you will find a diagram on these steps; however the so called 'decision step', which is illustrated in one of the diagrams, looks like an alignment of two feet which a ballet dancer would have difficulties to perform.
With 20+ years of football experience, I thought I had heard most of the football terminology and expressions. But terms introduced in this book, such as 'one or two hand punch', 'knee the defender', 'lift and strain', 'displace, distort and stretch the defender', pester, and waddle, are not explained nor visualized. Without prior understanding of these terms, this books is not very usefull. It seems that the good point of this book is the variety of zone blocking schemes out of different formations vs. multiple defenses.

5.0 out of 5 stars well written account of the zone offense, March 1, 1999
By A Customer
The author Stan Zweifel, is a zone offense fanatic. His book is easy to read and more important, the offense is easy to install. Both the inside and outside zone plus a passing game is explained. I plan to use this very offense in the near future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great job of breaking-down a good scheme., June 1, 1999
By A Customer
The authors of this book did a really good job of explaining the assignments for every offensive player on their base plays, the Inside Zone, and the Outside Zone.
