5.0 out of 5 stars well written account of the zone offense
The author Stan Zweifel, is a zone offense fanatic. His book is easy to read and more important, the offense is easy to install. Both the inside and outside zone plus a passing game is explained. I plan to use this very offense in the near future.

Buying this book, I was hoping to get an understanding of the body mechanics involved in zone blocking schemes. Buying this book, I was hoping to get an understanding of the body mechanics involved in zone blocking schemes. Unfortunately, this book makes the assumption that the reader is already knowledgeable of the mechanics, e.g. of the drop step and the bucket step. It isn't untill page 56 that you will find a diagram on these steps; however the so called 'decision step', which is illustrated in one of the diagrams, looks like an alignment of two feet which a ballet dancer would have difficulties to perform.
With 20+ years of football experience, I thought I had heard most of the football terminology and expressions. But terms introduced in this book, such as 'one or two hand punch', 'knee the defender', 'lift and strain', 'displace, distort and stretch the defender', pester, and waddle, are not explained nor visualized. Without prior understanding of these terms, this books is not very usefull. It seems that the good point of this book is the variety of zone blocking schemes out of different formations vs. multiple defenses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great job of breaking-down a good scheme., June 1, 1999

The authors of this book did a really good job of explaining the assignments for every offensive player on their base plays, the Inside Zone, and the Outside Zone.

This review is from: Coaching Football's Zone Offense (The Art & Science of Coaching) (Paperback)
I attended school and took many classes from Coach Z. To say he's a zone fanatic is an understatement. The man teaches this in such a simple way, he makes it seem like it's the only way to block.

I've heard people say that it's hard to teach, but with the built in rules and assigned zones, I think it's easier than a man blocking system. There's never a question with this system of who has what area or who takes who on a stunt. If kids understand the fundamentals of the system, everything comes naturally. Most high schools in the southern part of our state use this system without problems teaching the kids.

Coach K.

5.0 out of 5 stars In depth and complete, April 3, 2006

If you ever wondered what football commentators meant by "zone blocking" this book goes into the details of what that means.

It describes the two bread and butter running plays and how the blocking scheme adjusts to multiple defensive fronts. If you understand anything about football's finer points, it's a lead pipe cinch that Coaching Football's Zone Offense will connect the dots in this approach to offensive football.

4.0 out of 5 stars Coaching Footballs Zone Offense, August 4, 2007
This book explains the inside zone to the TE and away from the TE. It also does the outside zone, misdirection, traps, naked boot legs, play actions and other stuff. I really enjoyed reading this book. This will be a book I review each season before we start pratice.
