Must Have For All Coaches,

This review is from: Coaching Girls' Soccer: From the How-To's of the Game to Practical Real-World Advice--Your Definitive Guide to Successfully Coaching Girls (Paperback)
This is a must have book for soccer coaches, especially coaches of girls soccer. I also recommend it for coaches of boys since 98% of the material translates over. The book not only details performing specific skills, tactics and team management, but also covers team and individual motivation and correction styles. This is where the book becomes a little more specific to females then males, which is a good thing because there are a lot of male coaches that coach all girl teams, and they need to understand what motivates boys doesn't work with most girls. While boys tend to be motivated by accomplishment, girls are motivated by relationships. Understanding that will be rewarding and help you bond with your players and develop them as a team.
Read this book and you will dramatically improve your coaching!

Not just for girls,

This review is from: Coaching Girls' Soccer: From the How-To's of the Game to Practical Real-World Advice--Your Definitive Guide to Successfully Coaching Girls (Paperback)
After coaching, reffing, and helping to run leagues for 15+ years I am always on the lookout for ways to keep myself fresh and relevant to the kids I have the pleasure to deal with. If every coach could start with this book the world of soccer would be a funner place. This may not be the only book you ever need as you advance, but the broad range of advice, attitude, basic knowledge, and practical tips make this one a "must have". My only gripe is the title, there is some information specific to girls but so much of it is just plain good I hate to see someone miss it because the only coach or have boys.

Quality advice for coaching girls soccer,
By John Madding (Albuquerque, NM USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Coaching Girls' Soccer: From the How-To's of the Game to Practical Real-World Advice--Your Definitive Guide to Successfully Coaching Girls (Paperback)
I work with a top level youth soccer club as the Girls Director of Coaching. After reading Mr. Dewitt's book I feel that he has hit the nail on the head. The advice that he gives, while basic, is just what many new coaches need to start coaching girls soccer. The book covers all aspects of the game while still staying focused on the coaching skills need to work with girls.

This review is from: Coaching Girls' Soccer: From the How-To's of the Game to Practical Real-World Advice--Your Definitive Guide to Successfully Coaching Girls (Paperback)
This book was absolutely wonderful. I have coached many sports but never soccer until this past year. I read the book after the season and feel ready for the upcoming season. I learned so much about the game tactically and it was easy reading. John knows his subject. Would recommend it for any coach.

The ultimate guide for coaches of girls' soccer teams,

This book is all it claims to be. Clear, useful, full of great advice and fun training games and drills. Not a book about the author, but a real accent on the girls themselves. Brilliant.
It's been a bible for me for two years and I've recommended it to all my fellow coaches (who all want to know my 'secrets'!!) Thanks John!

I was asked to help coach my daughter's soccer team--a first for both of us. Not knowing where to start, this is what helped me get going. Good material on motivations and drills, etc. Definitely what I needed.

Ok... this is going to sound like a pitch for this book but....
I started coaching a few years ago and my wife bought this book for me as a father's day present. As I've advanced in my coaching from recreational to club soccer this book as constantly reminded me and guided me in coaching girls soccer. It's been a huge asset that I refer to often. I coach U12 girls and each season I find myself picking up this book to either remind myself of the psychology of the girls, how to motivate them, how to organize my practice or just how to teach a specific skill. The book has a few suggestions for practice drills but it really is a coaching "manual" that'll guide you on your coaching journey. John has done an awesome job and I wouldn't be coaching club if it wasn't for the guidance in this book. The foundational skills in this book has enable me to successfully coach my daughter's team well enough to advance them from recreational soccer to club. (We recently won our first tournament and I couldn't be prouder!) A few of my players have even advance into higher level club teams or made their junior high soccer teams If you're coaching girls buy the book you will NOT be sorry. - Arizona Club Coach

Good basic information on soccer and on coaching girls. Could use more information on 6 v 6 and 8 v 8 play as that is what U10 and U12 leagues play in my state. All the tactics in the book are for 11 v 11 soccer.
