From Chapter 8: Two of my prouder moments as a coach were related to my role as a parent-coach. The first was when a parent told me it took her three practices to figure out which child was mine. The second was when my son came into the post-practice huddle, put his arm around me and said, "You're a great coach, Dad!" The first moment is an aspect of coaching your own child that is often overlooked. More often that not a coach is harder on his own child than on the other children. Occasionally a coach will treat his own child in a special way. Both are situations that should be avoided. The majority of the time you should treat your own child as one of the team during practices and games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even a veteran coach like myself learned a few things!, August 18, 1999

This review is from: Coaching Kids: It's More than X's and O's (Paperback)
This book deals with issues that aren't generally discussed at sport specific clinics and that many coaches don't learn until they've had a bad experience. The liability chapter alone was a huge eye opener to me. I'd recommend this book to any coach, regardless of sport or experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect "how to" reference for youth coaches., December 12, 1998
This review is from: Coaching Kids: It's More than X's and O's (Paperback)
This book is great for those just starting to coach children and the weekend parent-coach. I've never coached children before and found the chapters to be concise and easy to follow. I especially liked the bulleted summary at the end of each chapter. I have confidence that I could be a successful youth coach and will have this book as a reference by my side!

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect book for the parent who is now a coach!, August 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Coaching Kids: It's More than X's and O's (Paperback)
An excellent resource for every coach but especially the parent who never thought they would be a coach, but find themselves with a whistle around their neck. It is easy to read and has wonderful realistic examples of dealing with many situations not related to the game itself.
