Book Description

Like so many helping professionals today, coaches are discovering that the most effective treatment plan is not always the one that takes the most time.

Perhaps more so than in any other situation, coaching allows practitioners to quickly forge collaborative relationships with their clients and help them maximize their performance in work and in life.

Brief Coaching for Lasting Solutions teaches coaches how to conduct conversations that are most useful to clients in achieving their goals within a brief period of time. The authors, two of the leading practitioners of the brief coaching method, masterfully guide readers through the steps of this process–from the initial meeting to follow-up sessions to troubleshooting setbacks–while illustrating essential skills with ample case examples. This book is written for coaches who want to reduce the time it takes to provide effective coaching while making the best use possible of resources the client brings to the table. At the same time it is written for the benefit of today’s clients, so many of whom want to avoid coaching that is time-intensive and costly, and instead seek coaching that is organized, efficient, and affordable.Whether your clients seek a solution to a specific problem or strive toward a more general life goal, this invaluable resource will put you on the path to brief coaching success.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended For Personal-Growth Coaches, February 25, 2006
This review is from: Brief Coaching for Lasting Solutions (Norton Professional Books) (Hardcover)

I wish every coach in the personal-growth industry adopted the solution-focused, efficient-coaching principles presented in this book. Long-term coaching relationships often benefit the coach more than the client. Today, the process of coaching with integrity is to collaborate with the client rather than promise to fix them. Through strategic conversations and negotiations, coaches can quickly focus on the solution, identify the client's current resources, and organize the most efficient and affordable road map for change. Whether that require one session or ten, Berg and Szabo teach coaches how to do this by placing the responsibility of results in the client's lap, while allowing the coach to act as guide--not guru.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cashing in on Coaching, March 2, 2006
By
This review is from: Brief Coaching for Lasting Solutions (Norton Professional Books) (Hardcover)
This is not really a book about coaching. There are many other books that assist coaches to learn about ways of assisting clients and they are actually written by experienced coaches. "Total Life Coaching" by Dr. Patrick Williams is just one example. Instead, the author-experts have taken a useful technique (solution-focused psychotherapy) and applied it to coaching. Readers will learn about the technique, but I think it has less to do with real coaching and more to do with therapists and book publishers cashing in on the latest trend in working with people who want to achieve their dreams.
