4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, June 23, 2008
This review is from: Coaching Linebackers and the Perimeter Defense (Hardcover)
Very good book which is well written and organized. Mainly emphasizes linebackers but does include some with defensive backs. Coupled with Billy R. Hughes book on defensive secondary (also available used - search for author), these two books in tandem give a great overview on the THEORY of perimeter defense. No one defensive system is pushed but rather the rationale behind different approaches and some great coaching pointers are given.

Hughes' book got a 5 star whereas this one only 4 because his is more versatile and written with a bigger umbrella around the subject. This book (Ellenson's) is less versatile but still better than many books which inform on a single subject in defense as the only way to go. Veterans simply know that many systems will work if properly implemented and ADJUSTED for each opponent based on scouting.
