A clear and concise framework of essential skills.,

Coach Christensen provides a clear and informative book on developing essential skills in offensive lineman. I believe this book is a "must have" for any line coach or head coach at any level. Each type of block, accompanying points of attack etc. is clearly described with excellent diagrams. Overall, an outstanding book.

Best OL book I have seen,

The book is very informative to coaches of all levels. Even better was his presentation at a recent Coaches Clinic I attended. If you had any questions from his book he was more than happy to explain, even demonstrate, what he meant. Excellent content from an exellent coach.

I had the opportunity to learn from Coach Christensen when I was in high school at a Mizzou camp. He was an absolutely great teacher of the basics so when I became a coach myself I knew there was only one place to go. This book has everything covered from fundamentals to intricate blocking schemes. I used the book as reference many times throughout the season to go back and check myself on my teaching and every time I came away with something new even after carefully studying it the first time I read it. This is an invaluable resource to any OLine Coach or OC's library.

I coach offensive line for a Pop Warner football team. Since I don't have any playing background, I need a good resource to guide me. Coaching Offensive Linemen is a little technical for youth football (I think its written with the high school coach in mind). Still, I learned a lot from this book and came away with more than enough useful information to warrant its purchase. If you read this book a couple times, you'll probably know more about offensive line play than a lot of working coaches. I also look forward to using many of the drills outlined in the book.
The author has a very concise and clear way of writing. He doesn't try to impress the reader with a bunch of acronyms and stories of his glory days (a welcome rarity in coaching texts). The play diagrams are numerous and clear, but there are no photographs of linemen demonstrating any of the skills. The lack of photos is probably the book's one weakness and the reason I gave it four instead of five stars. Photos would be a great addition to the second edition! Anyway, this book is a good buy if you are football coach at the youth to high school level. You will not be disappointed. |
