I picked up this book expecting it to be the standard "best team ever" hagiography. I was pleasantly surprised to find the book to be very well written and superbly organized with a clear message on what it takes to win over the long term... a strong team ego. I would recommend this text to anybody in athletics, whether it be a coach, parent, administrator or athlete.

The greatest part about this book is the stories -- true and well-written stories about coaches coaching, players playing, but more importantly, leaders leading. It is so clearly evident that Pete did a fantastic job of recruiting players with incredibly high levels of self motivation and commitment, and then he found a way to give them an environment where they could thrive and develop into strong leaders with a high sense of team commitment, team first, team-team-team! I have ordered 10 copies of this book to hand out to my men's and women's leaders at Clarke University. I think stories, real stories, like these described in Pete's book, can have a tremendous impact on young men and women who strive for, and desire to achieve, similar results. Fantastic work Pete Fewing and Herbert Hoffman! Best and most rewarding soccer book I have read in a long time!

I just finished the book and found it to be very applicable to my role as a soccer coach as well as a sales manager. The leadership concepts are pulled through a series of interviews that I found to be entertaining and full of insight. A must read for any team leader!

I really enjoyed this book and would strongly recommend it to other Athletic administrators, coaches and student-athletes. It's an easy read, and the tips at the end of each story lend well to the application of the 'why'.

Pete Fewing is an amazing coach and more importantly a phenomenal mentor and person. The lessons learned about life through soccer about perseverance, the power of community and ethics of winning are timely.
