An introduction to coaching soccer, this book shows step-by-step techniques for teaching fundamental soccer skills - what to teach and how to teach it. This second edition also introduces the three types of youth soccer - regulation, small-sided and indoor - explaining the advantages and disadvantages of each type, giving appropriate drills, and suggesting how to determine which approach is best for players. The book covers the coach's major responsibilities, the tools required to be an affective coach, the communication skills necessary for coaching young athletes, the steps in planning and teaching sport skills, the methods for preventing and caring for injuries, and how to protect against legal liability. In addition, the book provides descriptions of how to teach soccer techniques and strategies, explanations of how to detect and correct routine errors made by young soccer players, 41 practice drills designed to improve players' soccer skills, and many illustrations.
