Coaching with Spirit is a mix of entries from coaches. If you are on a journey to coach with help from a spirit, maybe start here, but definitely continue on in your search. Two reviewers, Ms. Gagne and Ms. Schuler are contributors in the book, so maybe a little biased giving their five star reviews. I'm curious as to why they are submitting reviews five years after the...

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST read for coaches., August 13, 2002

This review is from: Coaching with Spirit (Paperback)
In her book "Coaching With Spirit," Teri-E Belf asks the question "Do you hear a calling to be of service as a coach or to become a better coach?" If your answer is Yes, than this book is a must read.
Through her unique conversational way of writing, Belf inspires us to look at the why, where and how Spirit enhances the coaching process. To support her premise that Spirit is essential in coaching, she shares with us not only her personal stories and experiences as a master coach, but also relates the stories and experiences of other coaches, coach leaders and clients as they experience Spirit in their coaching.
Belf organizes her book around three clear principles:
1) connection with self, clients and the whole 2)living in the present moment and 3) taking responsibility for our choices. Each chapter is filled with practical examples, worksheets and actions that allow the reader to learn and grow as they move through the steps of integrating and enhancing their awareness of Spirit. Through assessments, reflections and case studies, she guides us to a safe space that allows us to observe our own Spirit.
Reading her book is like sitting down with the leaders of the coaching profession and eavesdropping as they openly share from their hearts about Spirit and how it enhances their mastery as a coach. As you read this book you are surrounded and inspired by Spirit.
If you are looking for practical steps and in-spirit-ational stories to take your coaching practice to the next level. Enjoy! You are in for a treat.

Two reviewers, Ms. Gagne and Ms. Schuler are contributors in the book, so maybe a little biased giving their five star reviews. I'm curious as to why they are submitting reviews five years after the book is released. Perhaps to counter the critical reviews they received.

At any rate, the book is lightweight in content. Hopefully, I don't have any misspellings in my review, since based on a previous reviewer, the author can have a critical spirit. She apparently has since deleted the review.

2.0 out of 5 stars Where did your spiritual base go?, July 1, 2007
This review is from: Coaching with Spirit (Paperback)
I picked up this book hoping to find a resource to assist me in helping others. I wasn't able to finish the book, perhaps because I understand spirituality at a deeper level than the author appears to have ever been. It is interesting to notice the author's mean spirited response to the sole critical review of her work. Perhaps Cathy is the only person who doesn't personally know the author to put in a review. A spiritually based person would not respond to a critical review in such a narrow minded way. She even attacked the person's character because of misspellings. Where did your spiritual base go?

This review is from: Coaching with Spirit (Paperback)
As a Certified Professional Life Coach, many of my clients are seaching for something, that something that they discover is Spirit -- spiritual connection. For many of them, it is the missing piece in their achieving a new level of success and finding harmony in their lives. Ms. Belf's book captures the elements of Coaching with Spirit and guides the coach in how to enable their client to reach that Spiritual connection. It is a well written and very helpful book that I intend to use in my coaching practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Spiritual Path to Coaching Mastery, June 28, 2011
By
This review is from: Coaching with Spirit (Paperback)
I found Coaching with Spirit to be a roadmap to learning coaching mastery. The first time I read it I was new to coaching, and was struck by the idea that coaching with spirit was powerful for everyone, even to the executive suite. I have since re-read the book several times, each time finding a nugget of inspiration that moves me closer to masterful coaching.

Ms. Belf blends a practical spirituality with invaluable insights into coaching that have helped me to become a much more effective and confident coach. This goes beyond textbook coaching approaches in that instead of dry descriptions and mandates, you are offered stories, games and ideas that cause you to reflect and consider.

This is my most-read coaching book, and is the only book I own that is filled with highlights and bookmarks. It is my go-to for when I am stuck or have lost inspiration. I highly recommend Coaching with Spirit for any coach who wants to move beyond good coaching into great coaching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Inspiration, January 19, 2008
This review is from: Coaching with Spirit (Paperback)
In Coaching with Spirit, Teri-E Belf invites her readers to honor the presence of Spirit in the coaching conversation and to experience the intuitive dimensions of coaching. This highly readable, philosophical book is for coaches in all fields, including practitioners in mental health, medicine, education, and organizational development. There are chapters for bringing Spirit into Marketing one's practice, Executive Coaching, International Coaching, Coach Leadership and the creation of Coaching Communities.

Belf tells her readers that accessing the Spirit within and around us reveals the self in relation to the universe. Spirit is ineffable, ever present, and available. It is unconditional love, acceptance, guidance and connection to Source. Partnering with Spirit, coaches help themselves and others find purpose, reach for fulfillment, and tap into life's meanings. This book teaches coaches how to work with Spirit through connection, honoring the moment, and taking responsibility.

The book is a collaborative effort of 40+ coaches sharing anecdotes about those "coachable moments" when Spirit is evident. The author includes a chapter on the spirituality of coaching from the client's perspective, with touching and inspiring essays describing how coaching opens doors to purposeful living, self-knowledge and creative approaches to life challenges.

Belf explores the inner world of the coach and teaches methods that access Spirit: Listening, meditating, trusting one's intuition, asking thought-provoking questons, allowing silence, and letting clients take responsibility for their own solutions and choices. Coaching with Spirit is beautifully written. It's a book that I can open at any page and use what is there for medication and reflection. Teri-E Belf has truly captured the transformational nature of coaching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking Ideas by an Interesting Writer, August 23, 2002
By
Ann McGill (Reston, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Coaching with Spirit (Paperback)
The promise of "Coaching with Spirit" is profound. The words dance and glow. This is breakthrough, groundbreaking thinking presented with great clarity. Valuable, essential information for anyone who chooses to excel and serve as coach, facilitator or manager. Teri-e shares her expertise, garnered over many years, about how to tune in to self, other, the present moment, to listen to our intuition and flow with what's happening.

I'm one of the Coaches who supplied a client story for Teri-E's book. Curious about how she had incorporated it into the bigger picture, I found myself so engrossed that I forgot to skip ahead and look for my entry. As I kept on reading I marveled at the vast knowledge being shared. No matter how much experience you have, expect to learn something new and useful.

John J. Collings, Ph.D, M.C.C. (Annapolis, MD United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Coaching with Spirit (Paperback)
Coaching with Spirit is about the human spirit in action. This is graphically demonstrated through the wonderful examples of the presence and work of Spirit contained in the book. Of equal importance are the shared experiences of professional coaches working with Spirit in their coaching work. The use of "Reflection" throughout Coaching with Spirit provides the new and experienced coach alike with tools for deepening their own spiritual exploration. The result is enhanced coaching effectiveness in their work with clients.

5.0 out of 5 stars Author Models What She Teaches, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Coaching with Spirit (Paperback)
It is always a treat to meet an author and discover she is a walking-talking model of the principles covered in her book. Teri is an icon in the coaching industry and a rare combination of intelligence and compassion, insight and empathy, wisdom and wit. This book features many real-life examples that showcase how to work with others in a way that brings out their purpose, potential, peace of mind and productivity. As the 15-time Emcee of the Maui Writers Conference and a consultant who consults with clients on how to produce one-of-a-kind books, I know a quality book when I see one. This is an excellent resource for coaches, managers, parents and teachers. Read it and reap.
