5.0 out of 5 stars Lives up to its advance acclaim.
Having perused the many publications currently available on coaching, I chose to order this particular book when I saw that noted psychologist and coach Dr. Sandra Nahan had given it high praise. As usual, Dr. Nahan is right on target. With a wealth of information, strategies, and ready-to-use forms, the book provides thorough, easy-to-use guidance through the steps of...

The most important note to make about this book is that it is only a book of forms. There are no essays or articles in it that will help you learn about coaching.

Some of the forms might be useful to someone who is starting up a new coaching practice. The main thing I noticed about the forms is that they are repetitive. There are multiple intake forms, multiple coaching FAQ forms, multiple "First Coaching Session" forms, etc... Each with basically the same information. The worst thing about the book is that the forms are not well organized.

There are definitely better books out there to introduce you to coaching.

One Better Recommendation:
There is one book in my current library that came with a CD-ROM filled with forms you can edit and then print or send in email to your clients. The book itself was also a great intro to coaching: Fabjob guide to Becoming a Life Coach.

I asked an experienced coach to review the content to see if it was worth keeping and she agreed. She checked specific chapters I should read, forms to use, etc.

It has provided the start that I need before I meet my first client.

I ordered this book along with Essential Coaching Tools. They are almost exact duplicates. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED. There are some differences so I will keep both to use in my future practice.

2.0 out of 5 stars A book of lists, October 11, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Coaching Starter Kit: Everything You Need to Launch and Expand Your Coaching Practice (Paperback)
I was not impressed with this book. It's a book of lists, and checklists, not a narrative, descriptive guide to how to coach. It has a bunch of forms, which are great if you're just launching your practice, but to really learn the craft, this is not the book to teach that. It's "oversell" to say that it's "everything you need to launch" or even expand your practice. This book disappointed me greatly.

My goal was to obtain a variety of forms, which could be used or modified for a coaching practice. This book provides this plus a considerable amount of information about the coaching business. This book is a good starting point for anyone considering the coaching business.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great source for forms needed to start your coaching practice!, October 24, 2009

This review is from: The Coaching Starter Kit: Everything You Need to Launch and Expand Your Coaching Practice (Paperback)
This book is a great source for the forms that are needed in starting a coaching practice. It also has various checklists for coaches to make sure that you cover all bases when starting your practice, meeting with new clients, etc.

It doesn't have alot of info on coaching but there are alot of other books out there that cover this area, but these books don't provide the actual forms.

So, I would suggest buying this book, coupled with a few of the other books that have the atual "meat and potatoes" details of coaching and you will be all set!
