Editorial Reviews

"The book is a great list of coaching techniques and suggestions. In my opinion, the addition of therapeutic perspectives has a lot of potential for deepening the coaching process and so could provide long-lasting change for coaching clients. I expect the book to be very helpful for people working as coaches; counsellors working with EAPs or other short-term counselling might also find some of the activities useful." - Sue Lewis, Therapy Today, October 2010

5.0 out of 5 stars Just the tools, and good ones. January 17, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is not the usual type of book. There is no narrative description of why and how to coach someone. This book is ONLY short descriptions of specific coaching tools / procedures. No pros and cons. No discussion of risks or background on why the tools might work.

However, for experienced coaches and consultants, this is an extremely helpful bag of tools, and a pretty big bag at that. From my point of view, the very negative review of this book is unfair. There are many other books that explain the bigger picture and more about the process of coaching. If you are an experienced coach, this is an excellent resource.

1.0 out of 5 stars A total disappointment December 3, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
When I started reading the book which has appealing chapter names, I realized that this is not a book for reading instead its a collection of unbelievably short notes for scanning. Anybody who has ever been in a " lite ' coaching training would in probability have better notes than that. I am disturbed that how any serious editor and/or publisher have agreed to publish those disorganized, highly disputable personal notes. I sincerely consider myself cheated. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. It is a total disappointment. I volunteer to send my own copy at my cost to anybody who has slightest intention to buy. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK.

5.0 out of 5 stars 101% working techniques December 6, 2011
By Nata
Format:Kindle Edition
I found exactly what I was looking for - a book with very specific techniques for specific (and very common) coaching situations. I own a lot of books on coaching that are too heavy on "philosophy" and "psychology" of coaching, or describe a single coaching model in 500 pages. Though many were an interesting read, often they didn't sufficiently describe "nuts and bolts" to help with the day-to-day coaching issues. This book did. It is highly practical, simple, and very effective. I'm already using some of these techniques, and they work like magic. Particularly helpful was the attention given to building confidence in clients. I found many other coaching books ignored this issue or did not provide good tools for handling it.
