Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Coal Geology covers all aspects of coal geology in one volume, bridging the gap between the academic aspects and the practical role of geology in the coal industry.

It examines the environmental implications of mining and using coal, addresses how modern computer methods are facilitating coal studies, and reviews the changing market for coal and its usage in the present and future industrialised economies.

  • Includes current thinking on environmental issues
  • Presents a useful synopsis of the alternative uses of coal as an energy source
  • Contains the distribution and reserves of coal deposits worldwide
  • Offers a summary of coal sales and marketing opportunities
  • Includes International Standards listing
  • Includes an update on global coal reserves and production
Starting with background information on coal and all its properties, the book focuses on techniques used for coal exploration, and the geophysical and hydrogeological investigations of coal deposits.

Suitable for mining geologists, engineers, developers and other professionals working in the coal industry. Would also be beneficial for libraries, coal societies, oil/gas companies, and national and state geological surveys. This book would make an ideal reference for undergraduates taking courses in coal geology, petroleum geology, coal petrology, stratigraphy, sedimentary and mining engineering.

This item was purchased for our Firm's corporate library - and as such one tends to 'hope for the best, but...'

This is actually a very good book, and one that from an introduction to the subject of Coal's perspective potential purchasers should consider.

Whilst technically it is not overly 'heavy' it provides a broad, well structured and well informed introduction to the subject.

The book is not meant to detail every single detail of coal geology but deep enough to guide coal geologist, esp for those who just enter the industry and hunger for quick guidance.
