Great little book an easy read.Love the historical content. We are a WV coal mining family with a coal mining history. The coal mining industry although much improved is still a dangerous job to this day.I would read this book again and encourage you to do the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter's favorite book of all time!, August 26, 2009
This review is from: A Coal Miner's Bride: the Diary of Anetka Kaminska, Latimer, Pennsylvania 1896 (Dear America Series) (Hardcover)
Clearly, anyone can easily find out what this book is about, so that is not the subject of my review. I just want to let potential buyers know how treasured this book is to my daughter... which, in itself, speaks tomes about the book.

I don't what made my daughter connect with this book (I am half Polish, so that probably helped!) - but from the first time she read it (borrowed from her 4th grade classroom) it instantly became her favorite. She read it over and over again; read the entire book out loud to me, and then to her grandmother... she would read her favorite diary entries to me before she went to bed.

It was a sad day 8 months later when she finally was done with 4th grade and had to return the book. Although she was sad, the return of the book gave me a great idea: it would be THE perfect gift for her summer birthday.

Alas, the book was out of print and impossible to buy first-had. Luckily I score a used copy on Amazon, and I only wish I had a camera to record her expression when she opened her gift. This is a book that I am sure she will treasure, and one day pass on to her daughter.
